hey all
just planning for the wheels/tires that i need and hope to get soon
i have a 96TSI FWD which i will put shocks/springs on.. but i don't want to drop it at all... or at least as little as possible.. some rough roads around here

i'm going to get 17" rims, and i was thinking maybe 235 tires? i REALLY want to be able to hold a corner..

i'm browsing rims on tirerack, and i've found some which i like the style of a lot..
kosei K-1 TS's
http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Disp...eelModel=K1+TS&wheelFinish=Light+Grey+Painted

the 17x8's are 15.5 pounds and have a 35mm offset
the 17x7's have a 40mm offset.. and i'm not sure of the weight

my question: with my 96TSI at stock height, or no more than a 1-inch drop... would the 17x8's with 235's fit fine? would i rub anywhere? any problems? how about with 245's? :p

or should i just go for the 17x7's with a 40mm offset and 225 tires?

also, anyone have a personal preference for the light grey or silver finishes on those rims? my car is white, though soon to be black

thanks for reading

edit:
oh yeah... why do those rims have 2 valve stems? just to be weird?
thanks again

the 17x8 rim that i was looking at has a 35mm offset.....

so you're saying that a 245 will really fit on a 17x8 rim with 35mm offset without any rubbing?

that suprizes yet pleases me :)

anyone else?
thank you

With 245/40/17's you should be fine up to about 45mm offset. With 40mm offset you can run 245/40/17's or 235/45/17's. With 35mm offset your choices are wide open.

wow, really?
sweet, thanks :)
255/40/17 is so expensive though! :p ;)

Perhaps "wide open" wasn't the best choice of words. You would have trouble with 255's unless you went down to a 35 height.

by 35 height you mean the offset, right? because those rims are 35mm offset
i was more or less joking though..

What tires are we talking about here? I have 245/40/17 MXs on a +40mm 8" wheel and there ain't no 5 mm to spare between the tire and the rear knuckle. And Kumhos are usually on the low side when it comes to tread width for a given size rating.

My reference points are from two sets of Kumho 712's, a set of Yokahamas, and feedback from several other dsmtuners. I estimate 4mm clearance with 245/40/17 and 45mm offset, which I consider absolute minimum.

Have you actually measured the clearance with your setup?
