Left Inner Tie Rod End

TOday i went to get an alignment and they told me i couldn't because my left inner tie rod end was loose... and they quoted me $156.34, so i walked out.... i'm just wondering is it easy enough to replace it myself or fork out the money.. thanks...

also what kinds of tools would i need and how long would it take?

take the the nut off the tie rod end and break it loose with a hammer, and used either a 32mm wrench or a big crescent wrench to take the inner tie rod out. shouldnt take more than 30 mins to do.

Yeah, see, no. I spent an hour today using a pickle fork and a hammer and the tie rod end ball joint would not break loose. Any suggestions? I thought about getting the OEM puller. It's $75 from Miller Specialty tools.

I just did the right side one on my Talon, and didn't use a puller. I used a RBFH (Really Big Fxxxing Hammer). What I did actually was, I jacked up the passenger side, took the wheel off, then lowered the jack and put the rotor on a wooden block, and it compressed the suspension almost like it was on the ground. It looked like it helped because one hit with the ol' brass hammer and it fell out. I also used some PB blaster on it. Good luck!

i'm a little confused... is the part that usually need replacing the inner or outer tie rod end??!!? because different people are giving me different answers.

i don't see how your confused slowspyder laid it out pretty clear. everyone else is telling you how to pop the outer tie rod end off, which you have to do first to get the inner rod end out...did that clear things up?

a pickle fork ruins the rubber boot (in my experience). i always use a BFH...

The days of using a pickle fork are gone. Tapping on the knuckle where the outer tie rod end is normally the best and easiest way. You can buy the puller from Miller but a little WD-40 and a BFH will work and you've probably already got them in your arsenal.

Yeah I had to get the inner rod replaced a year ago, should've gotten the outers replaced too. The rubber boot on my outer rod was already torn, but the pickle fork just made it worse.
