what spacer is needed to run 3rd gen RX7 wheels on a 1g?

anyone know what spacer i have to run if any to mount 3rd gen RX7 wheels to my 90 tsi awd? im running 225/50/16's w/ them and what is the widest tire i can run w/ the wheels?? thanx Steven

I can help calm down. On the back i didnt' have to use any spacers, but my car is fwd, on an awd I believe you have to file the a-arm, not 100% sure. On the front I only use an 1/8". They barely rub the plastic on the inside of the wheel well. But when you go more than an 1/8" the front wheels will stick out past the fenders and look pretty stupid, since the the wheels are 8" wide. My rear wheels don't stick out at all past the fender.

I know a lot of vw people that roll their fenders to fit wider wheels. I haven't seen any dsm's with that done. That could be an option if you want to use more than an 1/8" of spacing.

The main reason you put spacers on (other than to prevent rubbing) is so the wheel is offset properly to keep the proper scrub radius. If you dont keep the same 46mm offset that the stock wheels had (or really close, like 1mm difference max) you'll end up with a car that gets either horrible torque steer, severe road crown sensetivity, or is very unstable under hard braking. Trust me, I had a set of brand new American racing wheels on that were 16x7 40mm offset and the car was a nightmare. I got a set that were 45mm and the car is great now. On the rear of the FWD cars it doesnt matter if the offset is idenitcal to stock, but on the front where all the action is happenning it makes a HUGE difference. I know there was a spacer available in the exact size needed to make the RX7 wheels the right offset for DSMS but I don't remember the size...
