i am lookin to slam my car about 1 1/2 inches and cant afford springs and coilovers. Now im friends with the local truck accesories shop, and they can heat up my springs and compress em for about a inch and ahalf drop, just the same for only a 100$. Now at that small of a drop would it be safe for me to use that method, or will it kill my alignment and kill my ride? I could save the $, but im impatient. I would highly appreciate as much feedback as i can get from the pros. Thanks alot guys.

Dont do it , for a few bucks more you can buy springs .Wait to do it right because the car is going to ride like absolute crap.

this is like the same concept of cuttnig your springs.. ofcourse its cheaper but in the long run things will break.. no one can tell you exactly how long or what will happen but there is a reason companies make coilovers and springs.. if cutting springs or heating them up to compress them was a good thing then no one would buy sprigns :)

one last thing guys, not to be a pain in the ass, but for an easy reference,
what springs?......95 GS
thanks;)

I know you can get used eibach sportlines etc for around that $100 range. Heck, I just got myself adjustable coilovers from ebay for $120 after shipping. Didn't install it today because I forgot to get the swaybar links and bolts from the dealer to replace.. oops! :( I have a friend who runs the same ones, no problems at all.

Thats kinda stupid if you think about it..

Now I'm no scientist, but I believe, and I'm pretty sure I'm right.. When you heat up a metal, and let it cool down, like you would be doing, it weakens it.. Now, I don't trust my car to something like that.. You can get springs for like 180 bucks.. just save up more money, and do the spring install yourself..

A. You'll save money
B. You'll learn stuff
C. You wont die.. unless of course you forget to tighten something up.. like a wheel, or a strut.. or 4...

Damn, that would suck.

For springs a good place to look is on www.nopionline.com . But the Eibachs the were suggested in an earlier post won't give you the drop you want, only about an inch. Intrax are good springs (which I have) and drop 1.7 inches and Sprint Extremes go a full 2 inches.

I'd go with the eibach Pro-Kit personally, seen them on other cars..want them on mine. Pro-kit wont sit as low as sportline, but you can keep your stock shocks. KYB adjustable shocks are good to use with these springs also. Until I decide to buy springs, i might heat mine up for the hell of it. Anyone Know if a 95 talon fwd sits lower than the 96 talon awd? people think my car sits low..i compared to my sisters and it sits about an inch or 2 lower.

Another thing about heating and/or cutting springs is if you lower the car without increasing the stiffness of the springs, then you're going to be closer to hitting the top travel of the shock absorber.

Lowering springs are also stiffer to compensate for this. If you lower your car 2 inches, you have 2 inches less distance to travel on your shocks, so the stiffer springs make sure that you're not going to top out.

I don't have any figures or numbers to back me up, but this is how it is :)

Just cut mine yesterday for the hell of it. Took one coil off the front and one and a half aff the back. Set it down good but over hard bumps my front strut bottoms out. Looks like I need some new lower front springs and new adjustable shocks.

you can easily buy lowering springs for $100-$150, check out e-bay buddy. you heat them up and you're gonna have sagging and a rough ride. do it right.

I just got my Eibach Sportlines put on yesterday and I couldn't notice a difference in ride quality but it eliminated wheel gap completely and makes my bodykit about an inch and a half off the ground, it looks awesome! I bought them used from a friend for $50 so there are ways of getting around the cost of new springs cuz somebody is always selling some. By the way these are 1.6" drop but I heard they usually sag to about 2" to 2.5".
