egr solenoid output pin 53 on ecu..aem ems?

Previous owner has this pin from connector c60 pin 53 hooked to the aftermarket fan relay switch. The fan does not kick on. It looks as if they were looking for a switched ground. He did have an aem ems prior to me getting the car. He kept the aem. Just wondering if the aem used this pin in the harness to activate the fans.
