in great need of a 2g awd manual transmission. long story short mine is dead.... need when i get back from deployment so i can go to work LOL. pm me if you got one laying around and you will be my hero!

I don't have a 2g trans but I'd be more than happy to help you rebuild yours. I did my 1G a couple years ago and they aren't too complex. The great thing about rebuilding is that you can do upgrades while you're there. And it'll be a ton better than some half dead unit you'll get, if you replace all the parts in with new OEM ones. A few things I'd suggest are a double syncro 2nd gear and a 4 spider diff. Although most kits come with a double sycro 2nd gear. You're gonna wait a week for shipping for machining and shipping and then about another 4-5 days for the right spacers to come in. Between the 2 weeks of downtime you're looking at a brand new transmission

dumb Afghanistan interwebs..... ok writing this for the third time. i wish i would have read your post a few days ago because i figured it was in my best interest to buy a shep stage 3 since im doing my built 6 bolt swap when i get back. but i would be more than happy to take the help when i get back!

I know how the internet over there can be.... At any rate, There is something to be said buy getting a trans off a reputable vendor on here. They can do things outside the scope of the home built rig like improve the oiling in the case, shot peening the gears, blueprinting the syncros and adding the 4 spider diff for less than the cost of shipping one out. I understand not everyone has that kind of budget though. The vendors websites' that also typically have a very good FAQ (I personally prefer TRE's) on the processes that must be undertaken for a good break-in procedure, typically a few hundred miles of stop and go city driving for the syncros and up to 5000 miles for the gears to fully bed in as well. If it were me doing all the work I'd either change or have the flywheel step height checked out, replace the clutch, OEM TOB and pressure plate, replace the pivot ball, install some poly motor mounts since the 2G's have 3 out of 4 on the trans, and basically look at every piece and replace the easy stuff right then and there. You don't wanna have to go through the PITA of having to drop a trans because it was cheaped out on. Been there done that, it ain't fun anymore then. But if you're down I'll help you with anything you need.

Well, I'm here to help bud! The biggest hurdle to my guys is get a good quality book, Haynes is nice if you're changing brakes and don't wanna look half retarded in front of a mechanic. A FSM is where the real dirty work happens. If you don't have one, look on Ebay, preferably specific to year and model. I don't keep the 2G books as I'm primarily a '90 guy (like being a OBDII 95 guy). If you plan on doing this trans rebuild spend the 50 bucks and keep it basic.

First off what makes you think you need a trans rebuild? a notchy shift? missing gear? or something else? Each has it's own little indicators as to where to look for trouble and maybe the trans ain't always at fault. If you don't plan on shifting at 9k and want a solid OEM build, let's have at it.

I saw you had a extra 7 bolt motor you were willing to part with. What type of motor are you looking at going with and how to you plan on using (or abusing hehe) the trans? El Paso has some good tuners in it tho and if I missed something maybe they'll chime in.
