So the build is officially under way.

I picked up a 98 gs about a month ago for a swap for an rc car, the car is supper clean but had a bad engine in it so I'm gonna rebuild it and do a mild turbo set up. I already have a T3T4 turbo but I'm thinking I'm gonna try and swap that for a T3 and I got a bov and wastegate and an fmu and a fmic.

So the rods were orderd today, got myself some eagle rods

Thinking I'm gonna go with the topline pistons since its gonna be a 10-12lbs build, will also get new oil pump water pump timing belt and all that good stuff.

Got a few questions tho,
should I run head studs?
Should I get bigger injectors?
Will the fmu be enough with bigger injectors? Or just use the stock injectors?
Do I need megasquirt?
I'm planning to run a 255lph in tank pump
What should I use for tuning? The fmu and safc?

Any input is greatly appreciated

Sounds like it will be a good build, lets see some pics though! On the fuel system, you will probably need larger injectors to efficiently use the 255lph fuel pump. I'm not sure what the size is on the OEM 420A injectors though. Personally, I would use head studs because they are stronger than stock. And ARP isn't too expensive, and worth the added insurance in my book. What type of FMU do you plan on using?

Getting pics of the car today its at my shop

And not sure what brand it is I got it with some other turbo stuff I swaped a guy for

And yeah that's kinda my thought with the head studs but 100 bux is 100 bux if I don't really need em LOL

Got the rods in the mail today! :)

I'm going to try and get the block out of the car before the end of the weekend so I can it to the machine shop Monday and hopefully get it back before next Friday!

Onto the pics

My car as she sits now

Well I got the block off to the machine shop yesturday morning and got a call from them mid afternoon with the news,

Rods are trash (but I knew that) that's why I got the eagles ;)

Crank needed to be ground .20

So a few phone calls later and everything is on its way

I got the majority of the parts today and I should the block back tomorrow and I'm hoping Friday I will have the pistions and the cams, gonna try to fire her up on Saturday if I get it all in time :)

Well today was a crappy day!

Had a little down time at the shop so I decided to start cleaning up some parts and get them ready 2 paint, first thing I the parts washer was the head and well I was cleaning up some carbon from the intake and well 2 ports weren't holding solvent :( the guy I got the car from said he had just had the head done a couple months before the bottom end and the looked really clean compared to the block so I wasant to worried about, so now a call to the machine shop they are bringing me my block and picking up the head.

Well when they came to drop off the block one hole didn't clean up @ .20 thou so there was a little ridge on part of the bore, this sucks cause the pistons are on there way after talkinig to the machine shop Monday and they said 20 would be good and the crank had to go 10, so back and forth on the phone with the guy and now he's trying to sell me a sleeve for that hole and I'm trying to get him to give me a deal ( he wants 120 ) becouse its not my fault he told me 20 over if he woulda called I could have orderd the pistons 40 over and we would be all good now ill be out the 120 for the sleeve or 60 in shipping to send the pistons back and get the bigger size, Not to mention another 2 weeks in shipping.

So now the plan is to wait till Tuesday when I get the piston and were gonna mic them and see what the clearance will be if we clean up the bad spot, if its 2 big I'm gonna have to sleeve it. I just hope he can cut me a better deal I'm already at my max budget for the rebuild and the extra 150 for the valve job is hurting a little.

But on a positive note I got most og the brakets and mounts cleaned up and a coat of paint on em and I smoothed the intake out a little and will be painting it this weekend, as well as saping some pics and posting em up

So today SUCKED big time!!!

Got my pistons in and they were wrong, the web site said they included pins CLIPS pistons and rings, well they had no clips they were press fit pins so they arent gonna work with the eagle rods bummer

So i call the machine shop to let them know i wasant gonna be bringing the pistons in so they could do the final sizing on the bore, and they tell me the block is cracked!!!!!

so now i have 700 dollars in parts and now i have to spend another 500 on pistons and find a good block :(

Well the build is going downhill fast the block cost me more than I thought so the extra few hundred for the pistions ain't gonna happen, so up for sale go the eagle rods and my turbo build is now going to go back to stock and ill just hope that the guy that is going to trade me my spyder for his gsx don't back out. Then ill just put the 1000 bux into the gsx ;)

Well project has taken a couple turns but the motor is back together and in the car just gotta finish hookin everything up....should be done this week

Nice build but why that color scheme on the exterior? I'm usually the one that's all for doing something different but in my opinion it doesn't flow all to well. Do you plan on keeping it all like that or are there more changes to the exterior to come? Not dissing or anything just curious is all because to each their own.

no more changes to the outside as of now, eventually the whole car will be orange.

the reason for the paint started and just color matching the high rise wing to the car, but i work at a shop that builds custom cars so our painter wasant having that, so after some discussion I finally told him just do what you want LOL, and thats what he came up with

Well been a while since I updated this so here it is.

Still haven't gotten the turbo motor in yet. But I'm getting close just picked up the head from the machine shop last week and they resurfaced it and assembled it for me. And in the mean time I picked up a set of 45# injectors, aem gauges I got my wideband fuel pressure oil pressure tru boost and oil temp. Got my a pillar gauge pod and the cluster bezel gauge pod and gates timing belt as well as some Evo 8 4 piston brembos and rotors.

So I got some work done since i had a day off for the 4th of july

Got the old engine out and the new one in as well as the Evo brakes new clutch new axles seals new fluid in the brakes and trans.

And the pics

Thanx for all the comments guys its coming along nicely.

And well so much for the Ram Horn manifold it dont fit for pooh LOL. I had heard they didint fit well but i got i with all my other stuff so i wanted to try it out and well no bueno its WAY to close to the water pipe ans well as to mount the turbo the right way you gotta pull the ac out or turn the turbo around and run slim fans or maybe even a pusher fan. But I found a Treadstone manifold for sale on craigslist for 100 bux so i picked it up this morning and then came fomw and installed all my gauges!

photo-12.jpg

haven't welded in the 02 sensor yet that will go in when the turbo goes on and i still gotta lift the car on the rack tomorrow at the shop and plug in the oil pressure and oil temp sensor, And then install the 1:1 FPR and the new line back to the tank then i can install the Sensor for the fuel pressure gauge then everything will be ready to go and the turbo will go in the next couple weeks, I want to get about 1500 miles on the engine before i bolt the turbo in and I still need to get my FCD and a couple fittings and some t bolt clamps and couplers for my turbo piping. BUT soon she will be running boost :D

Got some updates and now the build has taken another slight turn

It looks like i will be hitting the track in this car now :)

So got the MS standalone ordered last Monday and in the mean time picked up a pair of Bride racing seat and i got one of them installed today

And ill be getting the other one in next week then hopefully the week after that the MS will be here and in then the week after that the turbo setup goes on :)
