Hey All,
I just wanted to know what clutch would be best for my 96 GST Spyder....I been reading alot of Threads on ACT clutchs(2100 and 2600)I know that everyone says that the best clutch for AWD(GSX) is ACT 2600 but what about for my GST???Will the 2600 do the job for me too??I know that people say that with the 2600 you take a bigger risk of C-walking and I am a daily driver so............Im also planing on upgrading the turbo but just not any time soon(maybe in about 3 months)The clutch I have now is the factory one and its almost dead goooone(I learnd to drive manual with its clutch) I need everyones feedback good or bad..Im going to buy a clutch sometime next week....
-daily driver
-future upgrades
-feedback on those who have ACT 2100 or 2600
-Is ACT good or should I just go with something else?
THANKS TO ALL WILLING TO HELP
RICK-

FWD's = ACT 2100. AWD's = ACT 2600
If the motor is suspect for crankwalk, then either way you have to replace it. You still need a clutch and it's not a given that you will get crankwalk. So why limit yourself over something that is not definitely going to happen. You can still get it with a stock clutch. Spend the cash now and save yourself the trouble of having to pay twice for a clutch that you should have just got from the start. I am going on 3 years now with my ACT 2600 on my 95 7 bolt motor and it has not shown any signs of crankwalk. I just do as many things as I can do to help. I disabled the clutch start, change the oil regularly, and keep my foot off the clutch when driving in traffic. It's not like I baby the car all the time. I do my fair share of spirited driving when I am in a situation that warrants it. I was almost one of those regret stories. I replaced my original clutch with another stock one. It held up ok for a month but it took a crap on me. Thank god the clutch had a warranty that included the labor. I just bought the ACT 2600 and had my mechanic install it instead of the stock warranty replacement. The labor was covered by the warranty and I sold the new warrantied stock clutch. I dodged a bullet, but not everyone has that type of luck. If you plan to do upgrades, you will easily outgrow a stock clutch in no time. Money wasted if you can not effectively get the power to the ground. Anyone that says their stock clutch holds up fine, is missing out.

There is no signs C-walk what so ever,I dont want to get new stock clutch....Then I guess 2100 is the way to go huh.........

It says you want to upgrade. The life a new stock clutch will probably be even lower because of the added power of the upgrades. ACT 2100 is probably your best choice. There could be a better choice, but I am not all too familiar with them. I chose the ACT 2600 because that was the tried an true choice at the time. I am sure there are other companies out now that make a good clutch so you should read up some more. Good luck.

Im getting the act 2600 for my Spyder, Im also getting my tranny rebuilt be TRE and getting a Quaife LSD installed, Im going to be pushing about 400whp by the end of next Summer. But if your stock turbo the act2100 will be more then enough for you. The 2600 is a hard clutch, I just hope I handle it good until I get the 50trim along with the rest of supporting mods. But 2100 :thumb:

Seems to me that alot of quality clutches are over-looked because people get fixated on the ACT.

I have a Centerforce Dual Friction, but the clutch I would recommend for you is the ClutchMasters HDTZ. I have a friend with a 1997 GST who is BPU and this clutch is perfect. Very light pedal pressure and EXCELLENT holding power. If you have a daily driver this is the perfect clutch for higher-than-stock HP daily drivers who don't launch the shit out of their ride. He does alot of hwy. racing but no drag racing. Clutch has lasted 33K so far and is still good.

Try it out or look it up.

Yes of course there are plenty of good clutchs out there, its just ACT is the PROVEN best for DSM's, Im mean they test there clutchs everyday on Dsm's, make the best product for dsms. Centerforce is also a good clutch for dsm's its just ACT is a well known and is known to last and perform the best, so what if people are fixated on them, they are great clutchs, it would be different if the clutch sucked.

vrman im going to look into the ClutchMasters HDTZ.Im a daily driver Im not really into drag(its not that i not like it.its just that i havent try it.)Im more into looks(4 the girls but the there nothing wrong when a guy breaks his neck & eye socket looking at you car.)I do all my racing when cars try to step up, Its that little feeling you get when you win and the guy doesnt want to pull up next to you nomore that makes feel good!!!I swear there is so much rice here in Los Angeles that I think its the honda Capital of the U.S. I think theres hondas here then in japan...you cant drive without someone Reving you...I was going to get a clutch on thursday but i still go to do more research.
-VENOM makes a point on the ACT because if there wernt that good then people wouldnt give good reviews on it...but then again who am I to say anything I still roll with my stock clutch that down to its last shifts:cry:

I am in no way "knocking" ACT as a company. I have had both a 2100 and 2600 and was happy with their performance. I rarely buy the same clutch twice in search of the perfect clutch for my application. My buddy with the 97 GS-T was the same way until he found the HDTZ and is now sticking with that. Since his driving style, car and goals seemed similar to yours, I recommended that clutch. I also happen to know the RPS stage II would work very well as well but would urge you to look at the HDTZ from Clutchmasters because it suits you best.

Just offering an alternate opinion, not looking down on any other company.

Saying "Just get the 2600" doesn't seem like a good answer to me. The guy is looking for an educated opinion for his setup. He is on a STOCK TURBO'ed second gen who does alot of daily driving. Why would an ACT 2600 be the best choice for him? It wouldn't.

Research and tell me what you think man, here to help.

I totally agree with you, but I didn't say go with 2600, to hard. If he did decide to go with ACT , go with the 2100 no larger. But I think he should take a look into the Centerforce, really what do you have to lose. Thats key when owning a dsm, you have to research everything before and SEARCH for the best info and prices out there, you'll make out. Good luck!!
