Will I need to lift engine to replace Clutch?

My clutch is going out baaad. I know i read somewhere that for DSM trans, i will need to lift the engine to replace clutch. Is that true? and if so, do i need to get one of those engine lifters or can i substitue something more common laying around?

Dropping the tranny would be much easier.. read over this:
