I have a 95 GS-T automatic trans that has two broken mounts on the casing, the front lower hole is completely gone, and the rear mount has a bolt studd broke completely off the trans.

I have a 98 GS-T auto trans that has level 10 components, and valve bodies, but I have found that there is a really big difference between the 95 and 98. What I want to know is this:

Can I take the internals, the rebuild kit, clutches, level 10 components, or anything out of the 98 automatic and put it into a new 95 casing? Are the components from a 98 at all interchangalbe into a 95 casing? I am posting a picture of the 95 and 98 and you can see that they are no where even close to the same transmissions. Thanks guys for all the help. Please only answer this if you are sure that these parts are interchangable, and if anything can be salvaged from either trans to make a new trans work.

These transmissions are not only a different year- they are completely different transmissions. One is an F4A21 or 22 (small DSM trans) while the other is a F4A33 (large DSM trans). At least from what I can see in the pictures.

By the way, pretty much no parts interchange.

Why are these trans so different? They both came out of GS-T eclipse, on diff is that they are two years apart. Did mitsu really change that much between the 95-96 and the 97-99? You are positive thought that those two trans don't have swappable parts? Thanks for the advice and help...

Quite positive about the parts- I've done this for a living for the last 17 years.

Are you sure that the second trans that you have is out of a GS-T?

Why don't you look at the Model Number stamped on the tranny. that will tell you what you have.

The second trans pic I posted, the one covered in oil and stuff(the larger one), I just pulled out of my 95 GS-T. It has two broke mounts on it. The cleaner one was supposed to be out of a 98 GS-T, and has level 10 components, valve bodies and stuff.
I can't find the stamp plate at the moment on the 95 trans, but on the 98 it is:
KF4A23UP05 and below that it has
TN0341

I can tell by looking that you have acuired a n/t trans.

Anyway here is what your tag means. "F4A23UPO5"

F= front wheel drive
4= 4 speed
A= automatic
23= km177 (heavy duty small unit)
U= 4.350:1 final drive ratio
P= 29/36 speedo ratio
O= close ratio planetary with converter clutch
5= manufacturer's use only

Send it back.
