I want more time in 2nd gear

I finally figured out why my Auto trans car is so slow accelerating from a roll. It doesnt downshift into 2nd gear, basically until I stop and it goes into 1st gear. When accelerating it is fine, spending plenty of time in each gear depending on my throttle, but slowing down, it wont go into 2nd at the rpms that I would like unless I move the shiftr into 2nd manually. So, what can I do about this? Is something wrong? Or is this normal?

Save up the cash and swap in a manual tranny...

Downshifting the tranny into second gear on an Auto depends on engine speed and vehicle speed as well man...How fast are you already travelling when you are asking teh tranny to drop into second..I am not very sure of the speed/shift ratio in DSM's as I have only ever owned Manuals...but if you are already past the point of the computers limit it wont downshift...

You CAN try checking the tranny fluid and making sure there is enough in there...but you never mentioned any drivability problems, so I am gonna guess level is ok...If you have more questions please feel free to PM me...

right, and I am going slow. Lets say the up shifts happen at:

1st gear - 0 - 20 kph
2nd gear - 20 - 40 kph
3rd gear - 40 - 60 kph
4th gear - 60 - infinity

Dowshifts are like this:

4th gear - whenever I turn off OD
3rd gear - 70 - 10 kph
2nd gear - never
1st gear - once I stop.

I can slow to idle speed and it stays in 3rd gear until I stop.

The downshift from 3-1 sounds weird...so even lets say you coast down to 30kph and pin it what happens??...does it remain in third...if so...I would get your tranny checked out man...I mean your car is still fairly new and prolly doesnt have many kms on it...rip down to Platinum Mitsu...or Eastside Dodge if you are in Calgary...if not...then check out a local Dodge or Mistu Dealer man...
