How do I take off flywheel bolts?

I got my tranny out and sitting next to me, as well as the pressure plate and flywheel. Every bolt I took out of the car was very hard to remove...most were pretty siezed up. Now the flywheel bolts won't budge, and even my impact wrench won't free them. I tried a breaker bar and still can't manage to release any of them...:(

SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!

Tried heat. Nothing...
Tried PB Blaster. Nothing...
Tried to tighten them. Nothing...

Guess I'm going to have to get a pro shop to do this one :(

Oh well...

impact tools might not cut it ... these bolts are on at about 100 ft/lbs and loctite. You have to have someone hold the crank from the drivers side wheelwell with a 1/2" drive socket and you have to take a socket with a really long breaker bar to each bolt. They are tight and they will not come off easy ... be sure to retighten them this tight when you put them back on.

My friend is in the navy, he's a diesel engineer and whenever they get stuck rusted-on bolts they soak them in coke (the drink we all love), and the coke gets them loose from it's high citric acid and carbonic acid content. If you can't find a way to soak them, then you can try penetrating oil and let the bolts sit for 24 hours. When I had to pull off my exhaust manifold it did the trick.

You can also try doing it in cycles. Try pb blasting them again, and let it sit for a few hours. Come back and heat it. Try getting them out while hot. If not, blast it again and let it set for awhile, then try again.

If all of that still fails, then you're probably SOL unless you wanna try a 500ft-lb impact gun :)

You need a beefy impact gun to do it. One of those dinky Craftsman jobs will not cut it.

Took it to a shop....they are off :thumb:

I decided to get lazy and have them just reinstall the rest of the stuff. Thanks for all the help through it though, and on my other threads.

You guys are the best! :D

about $200...not too bad. At this point my time is more important and valuable, so I feel it's a good deal.

yea not bad ... first time I needed a clutch I had a shop change it and they charged $500 so $200 is not bad for half the work. I learned to do it myself cause replacing clutches all the time for $500 + parts everytime sucks.

I agree....$500 per job does suck, so atleast I got enough work done to reduce that. I don't plan on burning my act2600 out too quickly, but hopefully when I do I can get those damn flywheel bolts off next time!

LOL...
