how long does it take to put new driveaxles in, my cv joints are clicking and it vibrates very bad on the highway, im ordering new axles for the front and am going to put them in, is it a pain in the ass to do

More like PITA freaking NIRVANA
- For starters you could need an Impact (electric will do) , Impact socket (quicly destroyed my Non-Impact socket) to get the nuts off of the CV shaft -
- THEN a propane torch & NICE 2 pound sledge to get the freaking spline free from the Hub...
- do yourself a BIG favor & replace the seals at the Tranny - the front wheel bearings & inner & outer seals
- damn sure CHECK the seals on the center bearing (drivers side only)
- if by chance none of the above has ever been done you'll get to tear it back down to parade rest all over again to do ANY of the above later.
- Research Up - Tool up - Part up - & plan a weekend - drink lots of beer when done - you'll be good & thirsty.

Good Luck.

You summed that up well, BUCK!

You MAY get lucky and need to heat anything up, YMMV...

Actually, you don't really need an impact wrench. (nice convience though!!) If you are on a budget, you can go to your local autoparts store and rent their axle nut socket set for free. They require a deposit, which is refunded upon return of tools. I think it comes with a breaker bar to use with the sockets. Using the breaker bar and a cheater bar you'll break them loose. Heat will make it that much better.

Personally, I have a 1 1/4" 3/4 drive, 6 Point Craftsman socket with a 3/4 drive breaker bar. I then use a 6 ft pipe for a cheater bar. Gets 'em every time!! :thumb:

Best of luck

Yes - & someone holding their foot on the brake pedal comes in handy - On my Drivers side I can pop it out of the center bearing FIRST with the wheel cut all the way left - then drive the shaft out of the hub with the shaft laying on top of the center bearing - I don't think the VFAQ mentions that method.

does anyone have part numbers for the seals? or their exact names, i guess theres a seal at the tranny and i dont know where else though
