Hi people. I'm looking at buying and becoming a eclipse owner. I'm looking at a 96 gst spyder, but the shifting is funny. Not sure what it is so I'm asking what's wrong. In park the shifter will go into 1st, 2nd, 4th, and reverse fine but not into 3rd and 5th. While I was testing driving the car it still won't go into 3rd and 5th sometimes. I had to force it in sometimes, but didn't felt good doing it. Is this a common thing with eclipse or is there something with the clutch. Also when he drove it. It was working let it was fine, but then I friend of mine was driving it, It did the same thing to him as it did to me. Just asking if it's normal or is this guy bullshiting about it was a new clutch? Thanks in advnace.

Maybe the owner failed to break in the clutch properly. If so, I bet it would go into gear easily if you hold it just outside the gear for 2or 3 seconds before slipping it into that gear. Also, do you hear any grinding when you were forcing it or in general?

But it could also be a problem with the tranny.:thumbdown
