So yesterdy i installed a new shift knob on my new 92 auto dsm and while doing this the over drive button broke. The way home the car seemed likeit was stuck in second the whole time no matter where i put the shifter. Today i went to the junkyard and got an eco/pwr button(because that didnt seem to be working either) and a over drive button and the wires for it. I replaced both and nothing happened. the eco/pwr light on the dash still doesnt come on and the over drive doesnt lit up. also the car still seems stuck in second(maybe third) at any rate it is not shifting while driving. Any ideas on what to do would be greatly appreciated. i have NO idea what happened to it the only thing i can think right now is that the TCU is messed up. Thanks for any advice.

Same thing happened to me. Check your fuses. When I attempted to put my aftermarket shift knob on (with O/D), I unknowingly blew my backup light fuse. This caused several things: the backup lights didn't work, the SRS light stayed on, and O/D wouldn't work despite replacing the switch and going back to my stock shifter. I tested the fuses, found and replaced the blown one, all problems solved. I can't promise that will solve your problem too, but it's something to check if you're at a loss for what to do.

Your stuck in 3rd gear! 3rd is the only gear not electronically did up. I had this problem and i didnt know WTF was wrong, my tranny soon died and now I am swapping in the 5-speed. Fix the problem fast or do not drive, you will kill it!

what exactly do you mean by "my tranny died"? if this is an electrical problem, how would it destroy the transmission??

(mine is in "limp mode" as well)

I drove my car in limp mode (3rd gear) without knowing it for about 300 miles and soon the tranny overheated city driving and burnt up. I pulled the fluid level stick and smoke started coming out and the fluid smelled like burnt seafood. In my case the sensors in the rear of the tranny failed somehow cuasing this. I suggest taking your car to the dealer to see what sensors have failed to get the problem fixed asap.

that automatic transmission is comp controled, when this comp senses a prob it automatically puts it in "limp home" mode, it was designed to get you to a dealer, or blow out your tranny so you can pay the dealer, fix your od button and reset your comp should fix that problem if it doenst then i would contact a mech and try not to drive it much :D been there done that sold it and got a 5 speed :D:D
