its the joint located at the end of the second half shaft !
 
I used to have the same ticking sound but now it went away i am considering draining my rear diff. but it went away thanx for the help guys. by the way what is the best gear oil to use on a 91 TSi AWD it does have 140k miles on it if it does matter
