Last drivetrain question, I swear. This problem existed before and after I had my center diff rebuilt. (w/Shepard's Torrington bearing upgrade)

[94 AWD 5-speed (w/90 trans, cables, assembly, T-case)]

From a stop, I put it in reverse and start backing up, I hear a fairly audible clank coming from right under me right before the car starts to go backwards. If I stop after going in reverse, keep it in reverse, and backup again, the noise is not there. But then I can go forward a few feet. stop. put it in reverse and backup and the noise will come back.
This noise can also be heard when I give it some throttle in 1st, 2nd and maybe 3rd, and then suddenly let off. The cockpit vibrates and I hear this clank upon deceleration.

Kinda hard to explain, but does anyone have any ideas?

Transfer Case? Tranny internals? Rear diff? Driveshaft?

Thanks for any insight.

I checked that just today. I can move it just a little with one hand. Also, I used the REVISED DRIVESHAFT to TRANSFER CASE YOKE. Has anyone else used this part?

Is this the culprit?

What symptoms does a bad T-case display?

I had an old car of mine do the same thing and it was a bad u-joint.

Possible gear lash in the rear diff. Mine makes a clanking noise as I release the clutch slowly after a downshift. I thought it was the front diff, so I pulled that and replaced it with one with no play at all (the old one had almost no play either). The U joints hold up fairly well usually so I'd think it was either the t-case or rear diff.

I checked for play, not much. One carrier bearing could probably use replacement, or the caulking fix. Other than that the U-joints seem fine and I don't know what sounds are out of the ordinary from the T-case or Rear Diff when I manually spin the D-shaft...

It's not motor or trans. mounts...

There IS a PLATE(?) that seems to fasten the rear lower A-arm to the chassis that usually has a rubber boot between it and the bottom of the car, mine just had some rubber remnants on it and was dry as a bone. Could that be the culprit? Does anyone know what I am talking about?
