Hard to get into 4th & gear pops out

I am currently looking at 2g GSXs to buy and came upon a nice looking one.

Anyway, the only problem with the car the buyer told me was that 4th gear was hard to get into... and once in 4th gear it pops out.

Does this mean it has a bad 4th gear synchro (sp?)
or is the tranny toast? bad fork?

I will probably test drive the car soon. What should I look for as far as this problem is concerned?

Yeah it sounds like the synchro to me. If the shifter was out of adjustment, it would do it in other gears also. Start getting prices for a transmission rebuild. It could be the fork, but I would think it would be the hub, slider, and the synchro. When a gear pops out, it is usually more then the synchro that is worn. That is what I found out at least.
