I am out of ideas on this one. When i make u turns or 360 turns the rear tires will slip or chirp. I Just had a new tranny with center diff put in and a new Xfer case and changed my rear end to a 4 bolt rear end. Does any one have any ideas of what it could be? I did put normal gear oil in the rear end but that wouldn't make it do this. I am getting really fustrated now. Could it be the rear hubs? the drive shaft? any idea would be great. THanks

is it a stock rear diff? the only reason it would do that, that i know of, would be if it had a spool in the rear or the lsd was locked up all the time. its great for drag racing, so theres an upside :thumb:

I got the rear end out of a 93 AWD talon. It may be good for draging but i snaped 3 rear axels with the 3 bolt i was using i snaped one of the 3 bolts just making a U turn and i don't want to break any for my 4 bolt. Do any of you think it could be the LSD in the rear end it self that is messed up? I didn't see any metal shaving when opened it up or signs of damage. I just want to fix it before i break a 4 bolt rear axel just trying to make a U turn.

p.s.
did they make non lsd 4 bolt rear ends? i think i remember hearing that some where before and if they did would a non lsd rear end act the way mine is?

yea it did it with my 3 bolt rear end and as soon as i put my 4 bolt in it did it again then i drove about 10 miles and replaced my tranny and transfer case and it still does it.

are you takin the U turns are 30mph? LOL have you changed your tires and checked the suspension?

i am doing the u turns at like 5 mph or right round there. I am at like 2k rpm or less in 1st when i make U turns. The tires on the rear are fine. they around 6 months old. as for my suspension it seems fine. my rear isn't sagging or getting sway durring turns

Yea i am stumped on this one too, its starting to get to me. Thanks for all the ideas though. One idea i am going to check the LSD in the rear end it self

If it has LSD it should have a sticker on the diff cover. I know mine does.

Check the inner sidewal of your tires to see if they're being rubbed by any suspension parts. Check the wheel bearings, too. Did you get your 4 bolt rear end off a 5 speed or an auto tranny car? the rear gearing is differet between them.

I got the rear end off a MT and i checked the gearing and it was the correct gear ratio that is listed in the vfaq website. I am thinking that maybe the rebuilt tranny i got has a bad center diff??? What is the best way to check it other then remove the tranny? Like if i were to jack up the back of the car with the front still on the ground and tried to move the back tires would be be able to move at all by hand if it has a good center diff or would it not move at all becouse the front one move?

Could it be the rear hubs?...the drive shaft? ....the Xfer case?
No, not if they spin freely.
did they make non lsd 4 bolt rear ends
Yes, If yours is an LSD it has a tag on it that says "LSD".
i snaped one of the 3 bolts just making a U turn and i don't want to break any for my 4 bolt
Unless your axles are already damaged this is unlikely to happen. If you really broke an axle by only doing a u-turn that means it took more torque to break the traction of the tire than the axle can hold. That is very unlikely under low power and on street tires. Especially when you consider that the inside tire usually unloads and "skips" relieving any tension on the axle.
What is the best way to check it other then remove the tranny?
Remove the Xfer case and see if you can move the output shaft in and out by hand. If it moves more than a few thousands of an inch then you have excessive wear and maybe a siezed center diff. It's common so don't assume the tranny you got is fine. I would'nt use it until I checked for sure.

would a non LSD rear end act the way mine is? I will check for the LSD sticker on my rear end.

I will check out the Xfer case thing this weekend. So if the output shaft moves in and out then i will take it back to the shop and have them get another tranny for it. i was under the impresion that if you turn one rear axel/wheel and the other turns the opposite direction it is an open diff. Thanks for the all the help.

If the wheels are dangling in the air you are right. If you nail the gas when on the ground all the power goes to one wheel as soon as it loses traction.
