 I got a new (used) all wheel drive tranny for my car and guess what.....I got the old on out, took off the old clutch and flywheel and put a new clutch and flywheel on. PROBLEM IS, the new tranny wont go back on! I can't seem to get it to go on. it wont sit and rest properly in there without it hitting something or not wanting to bolt up!

Now the problem is, my friend wants to rip the engine out and just bolt it up, bad idea? I need massive input on this asap! I want my car back and on the road! Let me know what you guys think! Thanks!

your motor most likely shifted/angled toward the firewall when you pulled out the tranny. Get something that you can put between the firewall and block so it pushes the block back to were it is supposed to be. The tranny will slip right on. I messed around with this for 6 hours once. That fixed it right away.

okay here's the deal, the flywheel that i just got doesn't have the lip, and seems to be a tad bit bigger, so i'm think'n the flywheel is off a front wheel drive car. Now this makes it so the Tranny houseing doesn't wanna go over it, and the input shaft keeps running into the flywheel right?

I'm getting a different flywheel and hopefully the tranny will just slip over all the new crap.

Also is it true that i might have to jack the engine over a little to make htings easier? i've heard that like two or three times now. Thanks for everyones input!

make sure you take out the Gusset piece (triangular shape piece) with 12/14mm bolts held on to it. My tranny just dropped with the piece out still intact, but won't go back in without taking that piece off. Raise the engine slightly will help too. Good luck.

OK, lets try it again:

You probably have the FWD FW, which is slightly larger...

you'll be able to tell if the flywheel is incorrect becuase when you bolt the pressure plate on it there will be a lip of the flyheel still exposed. If it lines up flush with the pressure plate you're good to go. Assuming of course that you do indeed have an AWD pressure plate. I had this problem recently and a FWD flywheel will no fit inside the bellhousing of an AWD tranny.

Ok, we're going to assume that you do, in fact, have all the right pieces. I had the same problem, take off that rear motor mount, it doesn't need to be bolted to the tranny yet, then place a jack under then engine(use wood blocks with rags) or an engine hoist, then move it all aound until you clear everything. Not just up and down movement, but front and back as well. A real tranny jack will help, not the ghetto ass one I had( a jack with a piece of wood, sometimes my knees). Oh, GRNDSM, say hi to Joe L. for me(he bought one of your 92 talons).

Thanks guys for telling me what I gotts to do! :thumb: I'm going over to the dudes house where my car is at, and hopefully we'll be able to get all this shit in place and ready to go! I haven't had second gear since I bought the car, so it'll feel good to actually shift into every gear now! ahaha, anyway i'll let yall know whats up when I finish getting everything in.
