Swappability? Is that even a word?
Anyway guys,
I wanted to know if a '90 automatic rear end, driveshaft, transfer
case, and transmission would go right in a '94 awd automatic.
I think the rear diff is different, but I need a little help here to figure
out what is all the same. Is all the gearing different on a 5-speed?
Any help would be much appreciated,
Thanks
Nick

There is a vfaq about the gears. The rear end gears are the same. I do belive the gears for the tranny are the same for auto to auto for all 1st gens. BUt the spline count for the xfer case would be diffrent i belive.

the 90 has a 22 spline t-case, the 94 has a 23 spline, but if u replaced the tranny, t-case, and driveshaft, i dont see how that would matter
but i hope u know that a 90 has a weak 3 bolt rear end, and the 94 has the much stronger 4 bolt rear, most people would kill for a 4 bolt in their 90, i cant see why anyone would want to puy a weaker 3 bolt rear in a car that came with the 4 bolt

Ok guys,
The reason why I'm asking these questions of swappability is this. My girlfriend has a '94 Tsi AWD automatic, I have a '90 Tsi AWD that needs a 5-speed. I'm not going to put an auto in mine, but I found a '90 Tsi AWD automatic with a blown motor for $400. So I'm trying to figure out if I can use all the drivetrain parts eventually. You see what I'm saying?
