So the transfer case locked up on my '91 TSI AWD about a month and a half ago now, while doing 80+ mph going down the interstate. Well, anyways, I get the car back to town, and let it sit behind the shop. I can't get the xfer case off, and things seem pretty bleak.

Car sits and sits for about 3 weeks straight, and I finally call up a tow truck and have the car towed to Corwin Chrysler in Fargo, ND. They get started on my car, order all parts for a full xfer case rebuild, and wait for the parts. They get the parts, get the xfer case rebuilt, and then realize that the tranny is #@%#@%#@%#@%ed This is where they totally rule. I have heard so many stories of people not getting their transmissions fixed by Satan due to xfer case lockups. Well... I call Dean @ Corwin up last week to see how things were goin and he said they ordered the parts to do a transmission rebuild and get the thing back on the road. Perfect!

He calls me yesterday, and sure enough, the car is back on the road without a dime out of my pocket! That totally kicks ass!

The car was not stock, the tranny was not original, and they still worked on it, and were #@%#@%#@%#@%in awesome to deal with!

What was it like when your x-fer case went out? I just busted / bent BOTH front axles on my 1991 AWD A/T, and i can't figure out how the hell it happened. My driver's side axle is litterally shaped like a "w" and I think i may have to replace my 1000 mile transmission b/c of this...

When it broke? It was shitty. I was going down the interstate @ 85 mph w/ the cruise set, and the car lurched. The cruise shut off (i thought it was the ABS, as that had acted up on me pretty bad before). Then the car just started skidding. It smoked really bad, stunk like boiling gear lube, and just kept sliding.

Other than that... the car didn't move. That was it.

Better to replace a tranny and xfer case then pay for a lawsuit from injury or death.

look dude it happened to my car it broke the LHR driveshaft,locked the centre diff,put a bad ass growl in tailshaft and transfer was completly like melted, be prepared for an ordeal.oh yeh i got a good yoke now.
