hey guys..
upon closer inspection of my engine bay(engine is out of the car) i found that my back engine mount is broken..
now the questions rises...what should i use to replace this
stock mount(new from dealer)
prothane inserts
or is there a solid engine mount..if so does anyone have a link for it
and if i go sttiff are there anyother downsides other than the too much vibration on the ass..thanks for your help guys..

Hi, I just completed a clutch install and I decided to get the prothane motor mount inserts. The vibration is kinda bad when going into first gear, but then I'm just breaking in my clutch and getting used to it. Compared to my old clutch this thing feels like an on/off switch. I haven't really run the car out yet, but they do feel nice and stiff, there's a bit more vibration at idle, as well. Other than that I really don't notice any severe vibrations after second gear, just a bit more than usual. Hope that helps!

hey that is info i needed thanks dude..those mounts are good for avoiding wheelhop, yes?
now did you get all the engine mounts and how did you installed them..
just pulled the old one out and stick the prothane..
where you get them..slowboy, dsmmotorsports??
thanks my man.:thumb:

dont get inserts, get solid urathane mounts from prothane, its about $80 for the set of 4 engine mounts from extreme motorsports, they will completly eliminate ur wheel hop, we recently installed them in my friends 2g fwd, the results are amazing
inserts work good, but not nearly as good as solid mounts, and u need a good stock rubber mount for an insert to slide into for it to work, solid mounts will make ur entire car shake with the engine at low rpm, inserts dont transfer the vibrations as bad but they wolnt completly eliminate wheel hop, they will help but ur wheels will still hop just not as much as with the stock mounts, solid urathane is the way to go

Very true indeed, sold mounts are the way to go for a front wheel drive car, that is if you want pur performance, sacrificing everything else. The mount inserts I got are just for the front and back, the prothane mounts are all four (I believe, could' be wrong). As for wheel hop, I dunno about that, I'm AWD and have never spun my tires, except in the snow.

If you get the red prothanes try to just use the front/rear mounts.I have them and I installed all 4.It vibes something fierce.Talked to a guy one night who had only done the front/rear set and left the sides stock,he was saying his wasnt to bad.I had to see it after putting up with mine for so long,he was right it was barely noticable. Now if you want a back massage every where you go by all means putin all in.LOLol.Also I have heard that prothane makes black colored mounts and those are suppose to be softer than the reds.Just what I've heard so maybe someone who knows about the black prothanes will post up.

i never heard of anyone only using 2 of the mounts, i guess that would help with the vibrations, my friends car does vibrate pretty bad with all 4 in, and u only need the front and rear to stop the engine from moving forward when accelerating, guess thats a pretty good idea

and from what iv heard the black and red mounts are exactly the same, only difference is the color, because not everyone wants red mounts under their hood, prothane's site says "In most cases the color of the part has no relation to the hardness or other physical characteristic. The pigment used to color our urethane components is a paste-like product that is mixed into the urethane in quantities of about 2-4%. The two most popular colors are red and black, and this is what we stock for immediate shipment.", from what that says it seems that u can order colors other then black and red, someone should contact them and see if u can cutsom order better colors for our cars

now do you think that there is a place that would sell only the frontand rear.....:D ...
now is it hard to remove the old mount..or should i just take it to some machine shop.
ill try to contact them to see bout the costum coloring
thanks guys thanks a bunch

www.diamondstarmotorsport.com sells the front and rear, but let me tell you, they are a pain in the ass to get to. The front is easy, the rear is a son of a bi*** and you have to take alot of stuff apart adn it's really tight in there, I did mine while installing my clutch, it was still a PITA.

hey thaks for the info rabidfox..but my engine is out of the car as well as the tranny so the engine mounts are in my room
thanks man
ps..ican imagine how hard it is to take out the back engine mount:D :D

if you replace the front and the rear itll cause extra strain on your side mounts and possible cause them to wear faster
