Rear end whine...

I just put this 4 bolt rear in the car. it was out of a 147k 1G. At first, the rear end would whine a little on decel or coasting. i've taken it to the track twice and laid down some nice 60's. Well, the whine has become quite annoying and is there full time.

What exactly causes this whine and how do I fix it? How much of a time frame do I have before something tragic happens?

I'm not sure how well this applies to DSMs, but on my Explorer it did the same exact thing. After a number of inquiries it seems that to fix it required the LSD to be rebuilt. Well I just got a junkyard one. No more problems.

As far as a time frame goes that is all on how you drive. If you cars stick ( Im assuming) dont down shift and drive very light. Very light if you want it to last. Change the fluid.

A winding noise is noramly caused by exsessive play & also by being dry.


Be easy on it and it will be easy on you.
