i've heard that if you cut 2 inches off your stock 1g shifter it will have the same effect as a short shift. does anyone know or done this? :talon:

GHETTTTO. ah, it's allright for that budget though. Do you have a shift knob or the stocker, the stocker won't fit on if you cut it, although if you have a shift knob, just cut down to where it will still fit on. don't cut too short though.

It'll help some, but with the cost of raising the effort required to shift by reducing your leverage. Although you may not notice the change, compared to the shif-range difference.

Look at it like this: if you have to move the bottom of a lever an inch, and the top of the lever is the same distance from the pivot as the bottom, you'll have to move the lever through the range of an inch. If the top of the lever was 20 times the distance from the pivot as the bottom, you'd have to move the top 20 inches to get the bottom to move an inch- but you'd not be able to keep the bottom from moving if you leaned on that long a lever. If the top was only ¼ the distance from the pivot as the bottom, you'd only have to move it ¼", but you'd be about powerless if the bottom snagged on anything.

If you cut the bottom of the stick and re-weld, you don't need to worry about the threads. 2" is a longer reduction than is usually done, though- more like 1½".

The link seems to be broken..But I did find a 1g short shifter at Horsepowerfreaks.com. Anybody know about this one? I'm doing my clutch-cut wire to use anti-lag on link, and I finally realized that onmy stock tranny there's no way anti-lag is going to be fun without reducing my throw a bit. If anyone has some home tranny tips let me know! (will pressing skateboard bearings into my linkage help?/Will different bushings on the shifter help?)

So far my 6-puck sprung disc has been locking me out of shifting into 2nd at high rpm, so I'm mainly using anti-lag for 3rd and 4th.

Horsepower freaks actually has two 1g short shifters. I have the Fidanza one on my 1g. Its defiantly shorter than the stock shifter was. I can't really compare it to any other short shifters though since its the only one i've ever used.

I cut mine about 1 1/2" shorter about 10 years ago! It is MUCH better than stock and FREE! (I can weld) :thumb:
