This happend a while ago and I haven't been 100% sure what the problem is yet. I was at the track with my 90' GSX and did a fairly decent launch. As I was driving back to get my slip the car was jerking badly. I ended up driving a bit further and parked it in the lot. After I checked things out with a friend, we got in and the car wouldn't budge. Not even in netreul. I had it towed and it has been sitting out on the street for a while. This was a few months ago...

The other day I started it back up again. I was able to drive it for about 1/4 mile but it starts the jerking and there is a bad scraping noise comming from around the tranny area. Eventually after 1/4-1/2 the car will stop completly and will not move. The funny thing is I can put it in reverse and it seems to back up just fine, then I can drive it forward again for a bit. Might be a bit confusing but any info will be a great help, thanks.

Pull the side cover off the tranny from the passanger side. Flush out the tranny and see what comes out of the side cover. Drian in to a bucket then sort though it slowley, look for heavy amounts of glitter (non magnetic-its the bearing causing mostlilkely the intermediate shaft to rub the casing- Magnetic would be parts of gears, bearings, races, ect. Brass would be synchos.

Ive never messes with a FWD tranny but im sure its nearly the same, take note of the 5th gear syncho that falls off the input shaft (top) when you remove the cover.

Do all that if your real curious, other wise bring it somewhere then go from there.

It is manual right?

I am having the EXACT same problem. I thougth it was the axels, so I replaced those, but to no avial.

So we lifted the front end up and spun the tires, and they spun just fine (when you spin one, the other will spin in the opposite direction). So we think the front diff is good. We did the same thing to the back end and it seems to be fine.

Could it be the center diff?
