So, I just got off the phone with Dan from SBR. I was inquiring on an ACT 2600, and how they're known to be a common cause for CW in 2nd gens. As an alternative he offered a 2100 w/a 6 puck disc. This struck me as an interesting idea, and I wanted to get some opinions. I plan on running around 375-400 whp eventually (FWD), so I just wonder if that is going to hold out even with the 6 puck. What do you guys think?

A six puck disk will be a PITA if your car is daily driven. I guess you could get used to it...but I wouldn't suggest it. Just swap in a six bolt engine with the 2600 and don't worry about CW.

Agreed. Friends don’t let friends buy puck clutches.

That’s just a tad extreme don’t you think? The 2600 with the street disk really isn’t that bad. But if it makes you nervous go with the CM2500.

Unless it's gonna be a track only car then just do what everyone else does, 2600 with street disk. That will be plenty for 375-400 whp. Good luck. :talon: :thumb:

Just get the 2600 and start doing squats now so your leg is in shape for the increased pedal pressure.

A 2100 with a 6 puck would be a super bad idea. Driving unsprung puck discs is all bad on the street. Id go with a 2600 / street disc. If you are worried about crankwalk, well I dont know what to tell you other than people with both stock, 2100 and 2600 clutches have gotten crankwalk. Highly modified, bone stock, crankwalk doesnt really seem to have a preference. Ive had a 2600 on my 7 bolt while it was in the car for over 3 years and beat the hell out of it. Crank play was within spec, and compression still perfect.

Hope that helps.

Who carries the Clutch Master kits? I haven't been able to find them through any of the DSM distributors. Are they know to hold up pretty well on our cars, I know a lot of Hondas use them.... but that isn't sayin much:)

I know 6 pucks suck ass for street use. And I'm fully aware of the 2600's capabilities. I just don't like the fact that it increases the chance of CW, and I sure as hell am not swapping my 48k mile engine for a 6 bolt (not until it's needed). An alternative I read about in another thread is a 2600 w/ my factory disk. I don't know if that would decrease the chances of CW or not...

Thanks for the feedback

Sounds like I'll probably be calling you soon for the 2600. Thanks for getting that N1 downpipe to me so quickly, and no hard feelings about the PSI downpipe.

Using the 2600 /w your factory disk will be just as bad as using the ACT street disk because you are still using the heavy pressure plate. You could also look into a centerforce clutch, although I would not recommend one. Just get the 2600 /w the street disk...ANY clutch can make your crank go for a stroll. Then when it does, get that built 6 bolt you've always wanted :)

I like that plan. I just hope I don't get C-walked on period though! :Grits teeth, crosses fingers and gets ready to make order for 2600 kit:

Thanks guys

I have a 2600/6 puck in my car. It isn't bad at all on the street. In fact, I kinda like it.

The only issue is that there isn't a whole lot of room to slip the clutch and launching can be a bit tricky. However, with fwd and a 2100 I think it would make for a really good street setup.

dont waste yo money on the 2100pp y0! just use a six puck with yo stock pressa plate, y0! tha pressa plate is wut holds da mad powa once the disc has engaged the flywheel y0! the six puck is only going to help you if yo disc is slipping on high rpm launches y0! just get a centaforce dual friction y0! its pressure plate is like 2400lbs y0! the problem with the 2600pp is not the 2600lbs, it's the high release pressa y0! get a cfdf and you can have reasonable release pressa and decent pressa for holding mad powa y0!

yes I am bored, y0!

for only 400hp on FWD you shouldent need more than a normal 2100 unless your gonna run slicks or HUGE drag radials..

I ran the 2100 w/ a sprung 6puck for about 2k miles last year. While the pedal was nice and light, the disc still grabbed hard and made driving quite a chore. Chirping 2nd on downshifts was kinda cool while it lasted though :)

Just get the 2600 with ACT's street disc if you beat on your car at all.

Also, if the motor is gonna walk it doesn't really matter what clutch you're using...
