Does anyone know how to pull apart the transmission code? Like for the VIN number, each number/letter means something. Well same thing but for the code on the transmission.

Good luck. Other than the W5M33/W5M31, etc. model #s, the seriel #s on the transmission are information that only some of the techs *at* mitsu itself have the "secret decoder" for. I've tried to get a hold of said chart numerous times from Mitsu to no avail.

OK. I think I may have found some things out. 89-90 trannies differ from 91-94 trannies, we already knew that. but a way to tell is by the number on the tranny.

W5M33-2-NPXV is AWD/91-94
W5M33-2-NPZS is AWD/89-90

These numbers are actually stamped into the casing next to the bar code and serial number, but the label they put on it will have the end designation of NPXV or NPZS as well.

Now to figure out what the rest of the label is for???

I'll keep looking and hopefully I can come up with something. Thanks for your help DSSA.

If you have a car that was originally in a car from the factory, it should have the VIN # stamped on it. If so, you can just use that to find out the year.
