My transmission is seized in 4th gear. No matter what gear I shift into, it is always 4th. Very frustrating.

I am in the process of swapping in my original broken (but less broken) tranny right now, and saw this:

Any idea what it could be? It looks like grease from the CV joint, but there are no cracks on the rubber boot, and both ends are sealed tight. It is not tranny fluid, as that came out clean.

I am really puzzled. Anyone come across this before?

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Is that stuff forming around a gasket surface? Its hard to see if its on a seal or something from the picture. Even though it looks like something that oozed ouf of a gasket (even though I would be worried if something that nasty looking came out of a gasket), its hard to tell what its formed around from picture. Also, did you touch it and smell it? LOL I know its a stupid question, but most fluids smell alittle different and from the smell and texture you might be able to figure out what it is (i.e. gear oil, grease, and what not).

looks like the greese from the CV boot. If you shift and only stay in fourth gear it sounds like a problem with or clutch or shift forks

I found a hole in the boot literally the size of a pin. That tiny little hole caused all of that. Pretty crazy.

As for the broken tranny, it is stuck in 4th gear regardless of where the shift levers are. I am assuming a broken shift rail or something like that. Definitely an internal problem. My third broken tranny. :talon:
