Well i have been asking around these past few days about the best clutch to use ETC. I have a 93 TSI AWD 5spd. with some mods, plan on doing much much more so i want a clutch that can hold it. Now i have someone telling me that 2600lbs is way to much and will only hurt things, for example make the Motor Crankwalk, Hydrolic issues ETC. Well is this ture or am i ok, and if not what is the best clutch to go with?

go with the act 2600 clutch u wont regret it, if u start makeing more power it will hold up to just about anything as if u get like 2100 it will start to slip and with crank walk if ur going to get it ur going to get it u cant stop it but the 2600 does raise the risk but its ok
 
I have a 2600 and I think I'm going to give the Ceterforce dual friction a try real soon. I have it adjusted all the way out and it still isn't engaging where I would like. Also, you shouldn't have to worry about crankwalk to much, as you have a 1G and is about 99% less likely than a 2G to get crank walk. But I don't have any hands on experience with any other clutches besides the 2600 and stock. But in my opinion a Centerforce would be alot less hassle in the long run. Good luck

I'm not fond of the CF flywheel.

If you know a car with one put the clutch 3/4 down and rev it. The pedal will get soft.

When the clutch is clamped the weights do increase clamping force. When you are in the clutch there is a point at which they actually overcenter.

I am not aware of any differnences between a 1g 7 bolt and a 2g as far as the main caps and factory bearings. All of the theories of the cause of crank walk still apply to the engine.

I have actually seen cars with 2600's where the sheet metal of the firewall was flexing due to the increased load.

You can do the switch mod and start in neutral with the clutch let out.

It still is for most people the best clutch available.

Any clutch requires proper bleeding and adjustment.
 
i have a act 2600 on my 93 awd and i havent had any problems with it since i got it(came w/the car when i bought it), i have had to adjust the clutch engagement twice but i think its about were i want it, maybe another half a turn
iv found the presure plate really doesnt matter as much as the clutch disc itself, my friend has a clutch masters stage 3 2500lb in his 2g fwd and its alot stiffer then mine, and engages much faster and lower to the flor(but the engagement is more from the hydralic restrictor being removed then the clutch itself), but what im saying is the clutch feels much less driveable because of the different clutch disc, even though my pressure plate is 100lbs heavier then his, the clutch masters disc has alot more gripping points then the act does and uses kevlar(and the new CM 2500 he just bought to replace the old one is a new design with even more grip fins), iv heard of people using 2600lb pressure plates with stock discs on 1g awds with good results, seems the stock disc helps u get off the line smoother because its not as grippy
from what iv seen and driven the act 2600 is one of the more driveable clutches out there, but i havent had any experance with CF dual friction, the only CF clutch iv expiranced was in my friends civic, and it feels like a stock clutch
 
Ive never heard anything good about the centerforce, Id personaly go with a ACT 2600, I did.


I have the 2600 with a Fidanza flywheel and I swear by those, God I love these two.

And Ive yet to see Cwalk, if your getting it youd have it. Or its just neglect to take care of your car.

I am glad this topic came up. I myself have been asking the same question as of lately. Its just hard to tell what choice is the right one. I plan on doing a lot more mods on my car and don't want something that is going to give out on me too easily. My car is FWD is that going to make a huge difference on which clutch I get or about the same as AWD? Also for the flywheel any suggestions?

I'd just replace the slave with a factory one if it is worn and flush all the old fluid out. Then set it up and bleed based on the clutch adj link.

Despite what some think the ultimate clutch is a twin organic disk but with sprung hubs and pressure plate force from stock to act 2100.

Exedy has one that fits the bill. Some EVO shops have it. Two disks with sprung hubs and organic friction material. Their cheap stuff sucks like that stupid cerametallic. Their twins are very nice.

It is has twice the grip at a given pressure plate pressure due to the clutch surface area being doubled. You may also have to have your foot a little further in the pedal for a given slipage. That's ok its not metalic so it won't be eating your flywheel when you do it and the extra disk and contact surface disipate heat better. Since two disks split the load and have their own seperate hubs with their own spring sets its twice as "sprung" as a single disk.

I'm playing with some pretty cool stuff for clutch systems. I want to make sure get it 100% right before I start doing a how to.
