I just bought this car with 70k on it and it still has the factory clutch so I am going to go ahead and buy the parts needed to replace that but i figured while I was at it go ahead and get some type of LSD installed.

What is a good brand to get that isnt Mega money.. I am not going to be drag racing at the track very often but I would like to hit the gas in first without ruining new tires..

the car came with a Super 16G and a HKS SSQ I plan on adding FMIC all hard piping. better intake. fuel pump and rewire. and boost controller.. so figure thats the power I hope to have. Not that this is relavent but i figured I would get it out in the open haha.

I'm researching the value of the BMTranny LSD. What is the bang for the buck difference between the True LSD and the BMTranny LSD?

How does the BMTanny LSD work? What is the community experience with the BMTranny LSD. Was it worth ?

I also asked this question from BMTranny Here is the response from them:

Its a spring loaded lsd......basically the springs force the plates outward putting pressure on the gears. Helps you to get both tires spinning instead of just one. There are no adverse affect on your diff with this unit installed.

Based on the cost difference between a REAL LSD i.e. Quaife LSD @ $1,000+ and $200 for the BMTranny LSD I will probably go ahead and install the BMTranny LSD. I would still like to hear from people from the DSM community about their experience with the BMTranny LSD. Regardless I will post my experience once I get my car up and running again.

I copied and pasted this from another thread I responded to.

Okay here you go, I bought the quaife from roadraceengineering.com and they are curently installing it on my transmission. I cant wait to see the difference, but i wont be able to pinpoint what made the biggest difference since i got there aluminum flywheel and act 2600 at the same time.

this link is for the drivetrain subject and you will see the kazz differential here.
http://www.roadraceengineering.com/ecldrivetrain.htm

and this link is directly to the quaife info from roadraceengineering.com
http://www.roadraceengineering.com/quaife.htm

look around this site they have alot of information

Hope this helps,
Miguel

Question. What happens if you get a flat on one of the front tires and have to use a donut to get to a tire place? Isn't the insert going to make both tires spin at the same rate causing the smaller of the two to spin like crazy? or are you just screwed and have to call a flatbed? Maybe the springs aren't that strong, but wouldn't it generate a shitload of heat in the process?

I was hoping to hear from some owners of the BMTranny LSD, but haven't yet.

The BMTranny team addressed the heat issue by saying no it would not harm the differential. But I repeat it would be nice to hear from anyone who installed their LSD.

If I get a flat then maybe the correct answer is getting a flatbed.

i have driven both quafie fwd dsm's (mine) and friends bm tranny inserts. the difference with the quafie is amazing, its a whole new ball game, every fwd owner that is going to serisouly mod should get it or the kaza. If you only have the money for a bm, they are good, but no where near as nice

With any car FWD/RWD with posi, you NEVER EVER put the spare on the axle with the posi. With a FWD car, you put the spare on the rear and put the good rear wheel on the front. If you have AWD, get the car towed. If you put the smaller tire on the axle with the posi, you will kill it within a matter of miles.

Personally, I would never put these cheap inserts in the diff. Save up the extra money and do it correctly.

After looking through the DsmTalk and DSMTuners sites I'm leaning towards purchasing the BMTranny LSD.

The Pros: Cost. Though cost should not be the only factor it certainly is part of the equation. $200 vs. $1000 is quite a difference.

The Cons: If you are putting out over 300 HP the LSD insert is not recommended. After the 300 mark you are into serious mods and price matters even less.

Remaining Question: There doesn't seem to be much information from people who have the BMTranny LSD installed any significant time. Most responses from BMTranny owners have been very positive, however. I'm still concerned about the long term affect on my tranny and clutch.

There does seem to be some issues with destroying the transaxle. I can't tell from the posts whether this is because of the insert or because the POWER mods put so much stress on the tranny that the LSD just doesn't matter. It seems like the DSM owners who have problems with their trannies disintegrating on them have problems regardless of the LSD they are using, but I'm not convinced yet.

Let me ask this question of the quaife owners. Do have problems with your tranny not being strong enough to take the added stress of a DSM at 300+ HP?

well I have watched my friend blow 2 trannys and he had a quaife in both times.. but he is pushing the 400 hp mark if not over it.

I had a Quaife in my FWD that put out about 320 HP and I wheel hopped on half of my track launches. It's all still in one piece.

Right now it looks like one of our site sponsors is selling the Kaaz for well under $1000.

I know I'm not supposed to say,"use the search" but my computer skills suck, so I don't know how to post links for you, but the BM tranny LSD insert is the same as something called "Phantom Grip" hint hint

Im making about 360 at the crank right now.. is that too much for the B&M LSD? because thats what i was gonna get when i get my fidanze flywheel.

I just did a fidanza fw, act 2600, and bmtranny lsd install. I don't feel much of a difference on power and i still break out in first ( maybe it needs to be broken in). The clutch engages pretty good. The only thing I feel in this install is great holding clutch and a sore and tired clutch leg

About the Kaaz... has anyone had to rebuild one yet? I wonder how often that needs to be done? I know it uses friction pads instead of gears to limit the slippage. Both are supposed to be high quality units, but would it take a driver like Makkinen to tell the difference?

I broke a shift fork, and the diff is the only thing I haven't upgraded in it. I've been considering "doing it right", and wonder if the discount from DSS is worth it based on the Kaaz's durability. Is that discount on the front or center diff? I'd rather pay $700 more than the Quaife if it keeps me from gutting my gearbox every season.

As far as the BM goes... No. Not my tranny. Never.

Just tought id post back my results, i finally broke in my act 2600 clutch w/street disk, rre alum flywheel. I also intsalled a Quaife, b&m short throw shifter, shifter bushing, rre ss clutch line, = other misc things gages controlers etc... Anyhow, I LOVE IT, I only wish every one could have that pleasure. Its taking some getting used to the launche's but ive nailed it down this last couple of times, I was adviced to slipp the clutch Alot, that really helped,
Befoer I used to dump second gear now when I did that, it grabed so good my car booged out. TWO THUMBS up and well worth it, even tough im still paying the loan....
The clutch pressure is sligtly higher but you really do get used to it, unless you weigh under 130 lbs, and have thin legs dont worry about it, that at least prevents anyone else without experience from driving youre car.
VERRY WORTH IT.
