Kinda speaks for itself here....getting a 2600 put in here in few days, should i buy a new/lighter flywheel($400) or should i just resuface it($50)?Is it worth the money to get a new Flywheel? My car has about 98,000 miles on it,drivetrain has no problems...just want more grab!i'm in a pickle here, help me out, thanks guys!

Buy an aluminum flywheel based on whether or not you see value in it, not just because someone sells it and says it's cool, or because you might as well do it while you're in there. Some will argue that a lightweight flywheel is $DEITY's gift to the world, others will claim that it's the worst thing you can do to your car. Very smart people argue on both sides, so you should understand what you're looking for.

I happen to like the idea of lightening the load on the rotating assembly, which should theoretically give me a win in rapid revving situations (auto-x). I'll know whether it was worth it once my transmission is back on the car.

If you're doing dothing but drag passes, I'd probably give it a pass and just get your existing flywheel resurfaced. See how you like the 2600. Then decide if the extra rotating weight is what's holding you back, or if the money would be better spent elsewhere.

If all you want is "more grab", the 2600 is all you'll really want. What clutch disc are you going with (street disc, or 6-puck)? That ought to make more "grabbing" difference than any flywheel.

street disc...thats what i meant by more grab.....my clutch, not the fly wheel:thumb: I just wanted to know if a lightened fly wheel was worth the money?

Like I said, it's worth the money if what you want is a lightened flywheel. ;) I know I'm dancing around the question, but you really ought to understand what benefits (and drawbacks) come with a lightened flywheel before buying one.

To me, $400 was worth it for what you get (assuming we're talking about a Fidanza or other aluminum flywheel here; chromoly and lightened stock flywheels have their own quirks and risks, and if you're considering one of those, I'd suggest searching a bit on here, DSMtalk, and NABR before committing to it), but not everyone should put one in their car, IMHO. See above: if your goals are drag passes, skip it; you'll probably see more benefit from the weight. If you're road racing or autocrossing, I'd consider it a good buy.

But seriously, try searching through the archives, both here and at those other sites. There's a LOT of long-winded discussions on both sides of the fence on this one, and they're worth reading before dropping $400 on something that might hurt your performance where it matters to you more than it helps. ;)

you answered alot of what i needed there logic...thanks for your input there:thumb: I think i am going to stick with the resurfaced stock flywheel for the drag passes which i will be doing mostly,Thanks for your time w/ this Logig

For drag racing if you are experiencing a lot of wheelspin a lightened flywheel is something to consider, less mass and hence reduced inertia. (Tires of course are also part of this equation as well.)
What about XACT's new flywheel? I believe it is lighter than stock but more massive that the aluminum Fidanza.

But your choice is dependent on your own setup and current experiences and it is up to you on making your own educated guess on what is best for your own application.
