My car has been doing this every since i got it..5, almost 6 months ago. My friend says his 240sx does the same thing, and thinks its just cause our cars have a stock shorter shifter than most. Anyway, some gears..basically all but 4th and 5th, feel like im pushing through something for it to go into gear..its practically impossible to explain, but it totally depends on the RPMs...sometimes it'll be perfectly smooth, other times i have to really TRY and put her in gear. I've had other ppl drive it, they said it seems fine, even my mechanic hasnt mentioned my tranny in the weeks hes been rebuilding my engine. But i just wanted to know. Thanks for ANY help at all. Sounds like you're fighting your synchros. Shift with your wrist, not your arm: move the lever toward the gear position, then use just your wrist pressure to get them to engage.
You also may want to change out your gearbox oil, many of us like Pennzoil Synchromesh.
