Q's about 4 bolt rear end

I have looked around alittle and i havn't been able to find the answer to my Q. What i was wondering about is are the 4 bolt rear ends from 92 the same as 99? Could you take any 4 bolt rear end and put it on your car or does a 1G have to get a 1G 4 bolt and a 2G have to get a 2G 4 bolt?

i thoght the gearing was diff. in the second gen and would mess up the center diff. if you used it in a first gen. i am not sure but you might want to check on it .

Would it be ok to daily drive a car with a welded center diff and a 4 bolt rear end? I have heard you can't use a 2G 4 bolt on a 1G? Are there any rear ends stronger then a 4 bolt?

The differential itself is the same but the axles are different. 2G axles will not bolt up on a 1G. You will need 1G axles.

The gearing is different from the Automatic to the Manuals trans cars. 1G and 2G Manual Rear Gears are the same ratio at 3.545:1.

I've been doing it for 3+ years on the 3-bolt and over a year on the 4-bolt.

Yes, a Ford 9 inch but let's see ya put that under there! The 4-bolt is the strongest Mitsu rear that will bolt in under a DSM. They've gone 10s and maybe even 9s so they'll work as long as you don't try to do 7000 RPM, clutch drop burnouts on slicks!

Thanks. My first 3 bolt lasted me about 7 months my second 3 bolt lasted only 3 months till i snaped an axel. So i could buy a 99 4 bolt rear end then junk the axels and buy 1G axels and the 99 4 bolt rear will work?

Just so you know, you can't just bolt a 2G diff into a 1G. The one I stripped from a 97 GSX didn't look like it had the mounting bosses on the diff to bolt in the same way.

I think i will just play it safe and try to find a 1G 4 bolt rear. Any one know some one selling one?
