My first Gear is done help !!!!!!!!!!!1

I raced a mustang gt tonight, he had exhaust and cold air intake, i launched at 4500 rpms and i lost by one car it was very close.. i was gonna come back and race him again but my car wouldnt go into to first gear.. so i kept tryin and tryin but it wont go into to first no more!!! Does this mean my syncro of the gear is messed up of the whole gear? Can someone explain to me what i must do now to get it to be work again.. and how long can i keep drivin the car by juss usin 2nd gear to get the car rollin .. i really need good advice guys i hope u can help me out and how much would it cost to get it fixed and maybe some places in NJ to get it fixed....

for the fixing part, its not to hard to fix a manual tranny yourself, i just replaces 1-2 hub and collar, 3-4 hub and collar, and 1 2 3 4 syncrose, it was not to hard at all, and they have a vfaq for it at vfaq.com. is your car grinding or anything when you try to go into first, or make any sound?

my car feels like its in gear then i let go off the gas and it starts to grind , so pretty much i cant even use 1st gear at all.... =(*

sounds like you bent or tore up the shift fork. Mine would only go in first gear by hitting the shifter against the side of the 1-2 gear gate and sometimes when I rolled real easy to a stop. I had no pad left on the shift fork

So you're saying all gears can be selected excpet for first. Put on first gear with the engine off, start the engine, and see if it moves by letting off the clutch slowly. If it moves without grinding, then you definitely have broken synchro, hub/slider, and shift fork. You prolly could re-use 1st gear. If it doesn't, 1st gear is gone with along those broken parts. No... I tried that IT wont even Go into first ... Like if the car is off yeah.. But as soon as i turn it on it would start grindin...=( EVery gear except 1st works .. What should i do!!!!!!!!!!

disconnect shifter linkages and put on first gear with your hand on the shifter lever.
