i have a 96 eclipse gs-t and its auto...i was wondering how much power it can handle and if there is anyway to make it stronger or help it in anyway (shift kit, tourque converter?) im not really sure what to do...also what could make it smoother ( i guess thats how you would put it) like sometimes when i shift into drive right after i start her up it jerks kinda hard and also when its shifting as i drive it doesnt always feel like its doing it job correctly...any help is great...thanks guys

I got sort of the same problem. As far as upgrades, you can get high stall converter, shift kit, end clutch ( if that applies to FWD, i'm not knowing ) and better tranny fluid will help make it smoother.

Go onto DSMTalk.com. They have a auto tech forum and a few people that know autos.

Stock FWD auto tranny should be good for just over 300hp to the wheels. Some folks have went as far as 350hp but its rare. He is right though, higher stall, end clutches, and shift kit are the way to help with this. You should be good to go. HP is highly overrated IMO, if I get the low times I don't care what HP I have. If you really want to go all out you can get a Level10 tranny upgrade like I did. Then the tranny will handle just about anything you can throw at it.

As far as your problem with the "jerk" let me ask you this. Does it happen when you just start it up for the day and then only happens once right after you put it in drive? Sometimes this is caused by not letting the car warm up all the way. My suggestion is just be gentle when giving it throttle and then it should not do it again. Remember when the car is cold all the fluids are cold as well.

What sort of other problems are you having?

ooo dont forget the tranny cooler... a nice tranny cooler install is a huge tranny saver :thumb: anyways good to see another a/t dsm...
