sunday 4/13 i was out cruising with a couple buddys, one challenged me off a light so i hit it. my clutch was on the way out i planned on changing it soon anyways. pulled like a bi*** through 1st. but felt like i missed 2nd. then i realized the clutch pedal was stuck to the floor. got to my buddys place a half mile down the rd and trailered it to a garage the next day. just thought i blew apart a clutch. we got it torn apart down to the tranny, then i started finding little metal shavings :barf: and chunks of aluminum, at that point i knew i was ####ed. i found 2 holes, one on the top about a half inch wide and 3 inches long. and the other on the bottom the size of a quarter. both holes are on the housing that covers the clutch assembly/flywheel so i hope i can get away with just replacing the housing but i doubt it.

i had had some symptoms of crankwalk throughout the winter like sticky clutch pedal etc. im thinking that coulda been what caused it. the track last week loosened it up enough so that the crank walked too much pushing the flywheel into the clutch assembly and sent something throught the top of the tranny. thats just a thought.

im looking at an Evo 6 motor and tranny. might be time anyways. gimme you thoughts/opinions on what happened, or what i should do or how much im lookin at to fix this beotch

if it isnt that bad you could try getting the holes covered and TIG welded. If you end up replacing that part of the tranny case you will basicly be rebuilding the tranny and you will need to reshim the shafts.

If that's the ONLY problem then you can get it welded. It sounds like some part of the clutch let go and and perfed the bellhousing. When you pull the tranny try spinning the input shaft by hand and then engage the shift forks and see if everything is working properly without binding, jamming or grinding. Maybe you got lucky and just grenaded a clutch.

Just so you know, when a car crankwalks, the flywheel and clutch move AWAY from the transmission, that's why the clutch pedal sinks to the floor, because there isn't any pressure holding it back.

Nothing in the trans is that difficult to fix, but a lot of it requires the right tools, and some experience doesn't hurt.
