I would really like to swap in a manual tranny... but i realize that it woudl just be too expensive to buy brand new parts. Is it posible to do the deed for 1500 bucks? and still have a reliable set up?

Should i just look for a cheep, posibly wreked awd dsm?

Also will 1g parts fit a 2g?
I understand that i will need, in addition to all the linkages and what not,
--The trany
--The rear end!!! thanks

Why do you need a rearend?.. oh eah, the ratio is different right?

Match 2G parts with a 2G.

Depending if the auto is electronic, you could need to do some rewiring... but don't quote me.

Buy a wrecked car, you can then part it out and recoup some money from it.

well i figure if a guy was driving his manual gsx, and then a tree jumped out in frount of him, but he swerved, and the car spun and ripped the front off, so that the hole front section was ok, that would be good

it would be tight ot get a wrecked one, then i have all the little bits, i can even like have the head reworked, then do a swap in a weekend, i think it is very good idea, what kind of price are we talkign aobut? 1500? 2000?

If you have a fwd do you need a different differential or axles to do the manual conversion?

Search around here, Looks for a post called "did a auto to stick swap" or some thing like that. It was 97 talon tsi that did it for right about that price. Look around the drive forum.

Well I have a 1g 4g63 auto. I bought a 1g talon manual car for $150. I used it as a parts car because there was a lein on the title, other wise the guy would have tried to sell the car $2000. I am currently doing the conversion my self.......if you have no experience with pulling a tranny or motor you might need some real good tech support. This is my first front drive swap, but not my first time pulling a motor/ tranny. Off the top of my head you will need as follows : 5spd awd Tranny, clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder, clutch/ brake master cylinders assembly, clutch line, pedal- brake/ clutch assembly; this is very important as well as difficult to remove., trans cables, shifter assembly, knob, boot etc., fire wall grommet for cables, and the most important part of all a maintenance manual. It would be helpful to have a friend with you when you start this conversion. We have already pulled the motor and tranny....not to hard. I spent the whole day removing the pedal assembly, shift assembly, shift cables and various parts. The pedal assembly is where most people will give up. I can see why. I just finished it about an hour ago. You can use a 1g non-turbo 4G63 throttle body as well as cylinder head. I heard these components flow better and give more horse power. If I were you I would find a wrecked 2g awd DSM. Look at your local salvage yards and check some swap meets. I can keep you posted with my progress. As far as tools go I mostly had to use 14mm, 12mm, and 10mm wrenches concerning the transmission swap parts. I'll see if I can't get you some instructions as far as the procerdure is concerned. I hope this info will help.:thumb:

I found all my info that I needed on www.ecanfix.com/~mdhamilton/autotomanual.html So far I only spent $150.00 on my conversion. That was the cost of the parts car. I traded the motor for my nitrous kit. I sold the hood for a $100.00, instrument cluster for $20.00. I used the fuel system to repair my own car. The best part of all is the fact that I made money as well as got lots of other useful parts through trading and selling. Heck, I still have tons of parts to sell. Basically the car payed for itself and I still got what I needed and then some.:D :dsm:

thats awsome.. lucky... if i coudl get a parts car for 150 i would be made
thanks for the info
