I was on the interstate late one night and decided to do a pull. needle was at the M in mph. and everything was fine till I went to downshift at my exit some 40 miles from when I did the pull. It was like it was stuck in neutral, I had to force it into gear to get the car out of the intersection and then it popped into second. it was not making any noise at the time really. now its a horrible groaning moaning grinding sound haha. I pulled it all apart tonight and it seems that somehow the teeth on the clutch disc sheared off. this would explain why I had no gears when I got off the interstate. but wth? is this a possible normal scenario for something like this to happen?
its an upgraded clutch, 4 puck, solid hub. and a shep trans. the trans I can move the input shaft by hand and both output shafts move in all gears with out any notches. I'm assuming this means the trans is fine, but what caused the disc to shear like that? car was driving fine that night..

What specific kind of clutch setup are you running? Photos are also nice.

im not sure of the exact setup, I know its not act or exedy. I think its RPS. I know it has a lightened fidanza flywheel.
It is never slipped on me, even at 16psi launch at the strip.

I've had that happen to 3 act unsprung discs ( 4 & 6 PUCK). i installed a sprung 6 puck the last time and its been fine since. Same scenario though, random pull followed by metal clunking & no gears.

ive heard of sprung disc' shooting the springs out though. So I just slap another disc in and not worry about another PP? it worked really well.

Confirm that there is no damage to the throwout bearing sleeve and input shaft splines, clean, check the flywheel and pressure plate for any damage. If all checks out, run another disk.

It happens, just not too common with single disks. It is more common with PTT and QM standard hub twin disks because the hub splines are too soft or the disks/floaters are out of spec and are rattling around, resulting in input shaft spline damage normally.

I have done this a couple times in the last 10 years, once with a Spec 6-puck, and two times with QM standard hub twin disks.

I slapped a new disc in it. ACT street/strip. I got it real cheap. I can drive it, but 2nd is messed up. I can rev match and it will go in fairly smoothly as long as I'm not going faster then 15mph. the car wont shift from 3rd to second though. so theres obviously some sort of damage done.
