Hey guys. Alright so if you dont want to read the whole story on what happened skip this next paragraph and just go to my question. :thumb:

On friday I took the car to a meet and it was doing nice for a long time time my only complaint was that 3rd would grind slightly no matter how you put it in gear. a local performance shop that I will never go back to told me it was normal. I had about 3k on the tranny daily driven not abused too much maybe some hard shifting once a month or so, but, my 3-4 fork broke. I was not shifting hard, just trying to get on the highway, it felt like it popped into gear then me engine revved freely, I thought my clutch finally let go, or a shifter cable popped off, I pulled to the shoulder checked the cables, good, disengaged the clutch, pressure. So I moved it like if I were going to first and I felt the gear, let out the clutch and its good. when I move the shifter to 3 or 4 its like there is nothing there, just free movement. Has to be a shift fork. :banghead:

Does anybody know if jacks has an "extended" warrentee on their trannies? its only got 3k but I bought it almost two years ago.

Theyre not open yet and i dont want to sound like a total noob when I call.

Jack is a good guy ..but I doubt he is going to extend the warranty.. He might help you out w/ labor and what not..hard to say...

For your transmission to be having issues so soon at a relatively low power level ..I'd say you probably have had a dragging clutch all along which will void your warranty regardless... You should not have had 3rd gear syncro issues to begin with..and your low mileage transmission should have shifted smooth regardless or you had other problems.. Jacks is not open on Mondays...give him a call and see what he's willing to do for you...

I hope I dont have any clutch issues, Ive had this clutch in there for about 25k miles and Im not sure if I really like it, I miss my ACT. If I have to pay for a full rebuild I'll probably rebuild it myself and buy billet steel forks. Haha I hope I dont break those.

Shit I forgot they dont work on mondays, I guess I'll call them tomorrow. Have you ever heard any bad things of fidanza clutches?

Very little It broke in 3 pieces and fit together very well. When I took it apart I used a parts washer for the gears then power washed the case. My gear oil looked brand new still. I only found one tiny little piece wedged in a corner. Just make sure to replace your seals. I was cheap and needed the car back together so I slapped it together put it in and called it a day.

Use the shift fork from a 93 or newer trans since they are revised and a little stronger

Question is why didn't you just contact Jacks trans when you noticed a problem?
You would have had better luck getting it fixed then.
It's hard to trust shops anymore, at least for me it is.

I was a broke high school student and if there was a problem before i didnt have any money to even think about paying for it. But maybe i'll try that revised fork. did you have to pull the gear shafts to pull the fork or did the fork sliders come right out?

I knew I should of taken pictures and did a how to for this. The gears are on 3 shafts. There is a role pin in each shift fork. You must taken them out to remove everything. Its a lot easier when you see what your looking for when u start getting into it.

Okay, Well I hope I can afford for jack to redo it if not then I guess I wil be doing some home work and junk yard diving.

Why the hell would you pay for an extended warranty when it is a wearable part, and in this case, likely not covered by a warranty.

Either way, it is a $25 part. Tear it down and replace the part.

It is pretty much fully outlined.

Turns out it wasnt the fork I do have the revised one in there but it was the interlock pin at the bottom of the shift rod. I went back to jacks and they are making me a new rod, interlock and and new fork and shipping it to my house so I dont drive my tahoe again.

Hey. I just put in a Jack's Trans in my car and it's having the same problem. 3rd grinds slightly and I'm afraid it's going to break something. Any advice for me?

Check the clutch for drag.
