Chatter coming from clutch or transmission?

Since I got my new transmission in the car I've always noticed a sight noise if in going down a hill and shift up to let the rpms slow the car a little you can hear some sort of chatter that sounds like the trans or clutch? But everything worksfine and the trans shifts great the only thing I've noticed is that sometimes the clutch grabs right where it should and other times it engages all the way out like a worn clutch would I think the pedal might need adjusted in some but I'm still confused about that chattering noise? Any help would be greatly appreciated

What type of clutch disc do you have? Is it a full face clutch, or a puck style? Does it have a sprung hub or is it unsprung? From my experience a puck style, or especially an unsprung puck style clutch will give some rattling as well as make for a tricky engagement like you are describing.

In my experience it will sound like it's coming from the transmission. I had a 91 Talon that had a puck style disc with a solid hub that made all kinds of noise. I sold the car to a friend and he couldn't take the chatter and goofy engagement anymore, so we swapped out to a full face disc with a sprung hub and the noise and engagement problems were instantly gone.

If its chattering when you take off, rev up a tad then let off the clutch. I've had chatter with both 6 puck sprung and unsprung. Way more with the unsprung. I'm guessing by letting the rpms get low is what is causing your chatter.

I dont know if its really a fix because its the way the clutch is grabbing. Ware might cause the chatter to decrease over time or may even go away. Keep a eye on things shaking loose. Try to keep it from chattering when ever possible, like coast in neutral if you can. Just my 2cent.

That is the clutch. You will hear decel harmonics alot more with that 6-puck.
