I have a 98 GST Spyder. It runs fine except for the tranny sometimes acts up. I have read numerous times that the trannies in DSMs are less than great, so maybe this problem is common. Say Im going down the highway @ 65Mph. I want to pass a Rig in a hurry, so I stomp the gas and turn into the passing lane. Most of the time, if I am traveling at like 60 or above, then stomp it, the tranny sort of "herkey jerks" around for a second or two. It acts as if it cant quite get into a lower gear or something. Also, if it is really cold out (around freezing), if I dont let the car warm up and just right away put it in reverse to pull out, the tranny makes a kind of "rubbing" sound. Are these common problems or is my tranny on its way out? I have been told that the first problem may just be a sensor or something. Thanks!

Very similar problem.... On cold starts, after I put it into gear, it takes a second or two for the tranny to link up and then I get a good start. Once the engine is warm, at 60+, and I am going up a hill or whatever, the tranny seems like it's being run hard and won't drop down to 3rd gear. I have to mash on the gas.... Now, on a totally unrelated (or is it.. :D ), I get TPS CEL errors after letting off the gas in 3rd or 4th. TPS is throttle position sensor. I have a feeling that mine is bad. It has CEL'd about 5 times so far. Oh, and another thing, does your car shift quickly from 1st to 2nd and then 2nd to 3rd after driving for a while at low speeds? Mine does. I'll let you know how it goes after I replace my sensor. Mitsu charges 165 bux, Autozone has non OEM for 100...

i have the same problem just about. My tranny switches into the first 3 gears very quick and sometimes wont donwshift correctly. I had this thing worked on for 4 months and it is still not running right.

That's the problem, I don't think it's a mechanical problem. I think it's electrical. However, if the 3 of us are having the same issues, It might be a mechanical problem and I'm just in an earlier stage. I do not have the cold start problems that SpyderGuy is having.
