HELP!!! No gears

I own a 91 GSX and today I picked up this 92 3000GT VR4 at a dealers auction. I drove it around after checking fluids and macking sure it was mechanically stable and about 3 hours after i had been driving it around, i put the car in nuetral when i came up to a stop sign. I went to put the car in first, but the shifter didnt grab a gear. In fact, it doesnt grab any gears, it just swivels. I was thinking the synchros may have gone to shit? anyone have any suggestions of what happened? Im thinking about swapping the 93 VR4 6 speed into it to resolve this problem im having, but having something to drive around sure would be nice.

Why not pop the hood and make sure the bracket holding the shift cables to the trans didn't just become unbolted? Check the simple stuff first, bud.

I already check them out, they didnt come unbolted, they still are operational

probably a linkage problem

Did you pop the shift boot off to see if the problem lies at the cable connections inside the car?

if all the external stuff checks out to be ok, then the problems is inside the trans. if anything you probably broke the shifter block thats connected to the main shifter shaft or broke one of the shift rail ends.

i pulled out the block that held the shift linkage. on the end of a rod that was attached to it, a large nut in between some forks was all broken up, a piece fell into the transmission. Im trying to flush the little piece out, it looks like cast iron brass, it also looks like its been welded before. I got the new one. but i just got to get that little piece of metal out. thanks for the suggestions
