Hi all,

My ACT 2600 took a dump and the pressure plate fingers broke.

So I'm looking at new clutches, and I've noticed a common problem to all clutch disks. Every make and model seems to have a chance of popping the clutch disk springs.

The only disk I've found which could potentially overcome this is the ClutchNet disks. Their design encases the disk springs and it looks like that would help in preventing them from popping out. See pics:

I've been looking at 3 of the clutchnet disks:

So my question is, does anyone have any experience with these disks?

If so, which one? I'd like some feedback on any of these disks. Good or bad please.

Thanks,

Tomas

Follow up questions:

Which of those 3 disks would hold more torque? Does anyone have torque ratings for these 3 disks?

What about reliability and longevity? Which of these 3 would last the longest as a DD with occasional "Spirited" driving?

Thanks,

Tom

Question about the ClutchNet pressure plates:

Does anyone have any experience with the ClutchNet "Yellow" pressure plate?

I'm looking for a pressure plate that will not put a lot of load on the thrust bearing. I had a ACT 2600 and it's too much.

I'm considering the ACT 2100, Fidanza 3.2 PP, and the ClutchNet Yellow.

The only thrust bearing info I could find is on RRE's site here:

RRE's Eclipse Clutch Pedal Effort and Throw Out Bearing Pressure

As you can see the ACT 2600 puts a lot of pressure on the thurst bearing so I'm going to stay away from it. The ACT 2100 is reasonably close to stock which I like.

The question is, how does the Fidanza 3.2 PP and ClutchNet PP compare to the ACT 2100 in terms of pressure on the thrust bearing and crankshaft.

Thanks all,

Tom

I have the smooth lock coupled with an ACT 2900 PP holds 25psi on my HX40 just fine : ) Drives like stock with a little heavy pedal action.

Cool. Good to hear Mike. What kind of torque are you putting down through that PP and disk? 350 ish? That's what I'm looking to make.

Also, that's the full disk and not a puck disk, correct?

How many miles on the clutch disk?

Tom

Additional quick question: Can you buy the Fidanza Pressure Plate separately? I would like to mate a ClutchNet Disk with the Fidanza 3.2 PP.

Thanks,

Tom

Only have about 500 miles on it all and dsmlink was estimating 480awhp@
25psi
. Full face disk

I have the Red 6 puck disc and 2 x PP and my disc has the springs completely enclosed. I'll try to get a pic up when I get home tonight.
Dsmlink has mine rated at approx 400 atw.

Wicked. Thanks for the info all. Keep it coming.

I'm going to email ClutchNet to try and get more info about their clutch systems.

Tom

Well ClutchNet has yet to return my email. Does anyone have any more info? Long term results and such...

Thanks,

Tom

I had a friend of mine use a clutchnet solid hub 6 puck disk. As far as I know it shifted ok and definately was able to hold some power. (Car made 750+ whp and 500+tq), The only thing he didn't like about it was it was a really grabby engagement, making downshifting really tough on the car, could possibly hurt a stock tranny. If you're worreid about springs, why not go for a solid hub disk? Makes for great high rpm shifting, depending on what you're trying to do with the car of course. I'm using an ACT solid hub street disk right now with no problems so far, much better than the crap shifting sprung street disks they come with. That may also be an option for you, although you may have to ask for it at some places because its fairly new and not up on some venders sites yet.

Awesome, thanks for the info. Know anybody with a ClutchNet Pressure Plate? I'm looking for feedback on those too.

Thanks,

Tom

I've debated on going with a solid hub but my issue is the worry of killing my drivetrain, as well as how streetable it'd be since there's no springs to cushion it. Thinking of a 4 puck (since it's be lighter) or 6 puck and debating on sprung or unsprung.

Well, I'm definitely going with a sprung hub. The only question is which one. One of the 3 full face options, or a 4 puck, or a 6 puck. I'm leaning towards a full face disk because it's my DD.

Also, regarding the pressure plate. I have yet to find any info on clamp loads or TOB pressure. This is important to me because I don't want thrust bearing failure. I've had 1 (or maybe even 2) with the ACT 2600 PP. So I want something with less pressure on the thrust bearing. I was considering an ACT 2100 combined with a clutchnet smooth lock full face disk.

My hope is that it will hold the 350 lbs/ft of torque I hope to send through it.

I've used Spec with good success. Right now I have a new pp but need a clutch disc. I'd buy the stage 3+ or a 4 but the disc are kind of expensive so I've been looking at other disc. But just scared cause I've had my share of crappy ACT disc and want something that'll hold pretty well with a Spec pp cause they have pretty light pedal pressure.

Yeah I've heard that Spec uses the same PP for all their kits. They simply change the disk to hold more torque.

Yep, I've used the stage 3 and 3+. Had a stage 3 on a Mustang I had and was a heavier pedal. I'd like to try a stage 4. The stage 3 and 3+ was very streetable though. Never had any problems with them holding. Just wanna try something with a lil more peace of mind.

Correction. That was Fidanza clutches that use the same PP.

Is this true for spec clutches as well? I was looking at the pics of the Spec PP's and they look different.

Tom

I believe they do. But then again, I've never asked. I get mine from Titan Motorsports cause they're pretty cheap and twice now they've sent me 6 free tickets to the drag strip. Just couldn't go cause I had to work :(

But anyway, I'd like to try out the stage 4 but the disc themselves seem to be kind of expensive. And so I was looking to get an ACT but was afraid to get ANOTHER one that'd puke some springs out. Looking to maybe get this one.

4 button E-Z Lock (sprung hub) clutch for Mitsubishi Eclipse :: Mitsubishi Eclipse :: Clutchnet Manufacturing USA

I like the design where they enclose the spring. May be a lil more grabby but sure I won't have to worry about it not being able to hold the power. Sure it has to be pretty light so combined with a Fidanza flywheel, I'm sure it'll rev pretty quick.
