I'm looking for a manual transmission rebuild kit for a 91 Laser. I haven't been able to find anything online, but I thought someone else could help. I'm looking to rebuild myself, not get a used one or have someone else rebuild it.

I don't think anyone has made a "rebuild kit" for a manual trans. Due to the shimming and parts to replace it's a get what's required type of process. I toyed with the idea of doing the trans my self as well but have decided that TRE makes to many great pieces and mods to have anyone else do the rebuild.

Thanks, I think i'll still do my own. I have a manual transmissions class where we have to rebuild one, so i should have some help finding the individual parts. Might as well if i have to.

these parts are just for taking the tranny apart and putting it back together. This list does not include what parts are broken

1) All Shift Fork Pins (1st/2nd, 3rd/4th. and 5th/R)
2) 2 x 36mm stake nuts
3) Input Shaft oil seal
4) Output shaft seal
5) Axle seals
6) VC snap ring
7) Intermediate & Input Shaft Snap Rings

Have you rebuilt before? If you know, how much did just that much cost. I know I need and input shaft bearing already, and probably some other stuff too but i'm trying to get an idea of cost.

You should replace the bearings while you are at it too. If you were to replace all that was listed, the 4 bearings, and get all new syncros, you're looking at ~$400 in parts, labor not included assuming you are doing it yourself. If you need to replace gears or hub/sleeve assemblies, you will pay more.

yup, just finish rebuilding one last week. Took me about $250 for the parts below:

1) 1st/2nd Evo Shift Fork.
2) 3rd/4th Evo Shift Fork.
3) 92-99 2nd Gear and Double Synchro.
4) 1st, 3rd and 4th gear synchros.
5) Input and intermediate shaft bearing.
6) 2g Oil Screener
7) 90-91 Short Oil Guide
8) All keys for the hub/slider assembly (did not get hub/slider)
9) Spacer for Intermediate and Input Shaft bearing.
10) 2 qrts of BG oil.
11) Part List from above.

I can only hope that there aren't any gears that need replacing. No grinding though, so it should be good. I'll probably be doing all the bearings, syncros definately need replacing. I've been matching speeds for over a year. I will still probably do it even when the syncros are new though :) From that list of parts, it looks like some performance improvments. Like the shift forks. If i'm doing it anyways, i'd like to do some of that. What kinds of things are there that can be done? Where would I look to find them?

i would replace parts that are broken or look worn off. Save money on replacing unnecessary parts like 5th and R, rails, vc, front output shaft, and etc. OEM parts are the only upgrades I use. Just do some research on different year models and you could easily tell which years have the good stuff. TRE and BM offer plenty of upgraded stuffs, but I don't have the $$$$ and can't afford the downtime.

www.partznet.com (30 mins away, that's another reason why i only use oem parts).

Holy crap. Where did you buy your parts from? I can get dealer pricing and can't get it for that cheap. What forks are those? With the stock pads or modified like TRE offers?
