I could be wrong, but I think that it would have an AW372 (A44D) which is a Toyota unit. If my memory serves me, the Chrysler units were not used until the 1990 model year. If you have the 'yota trans they are not bad, although I've never done a high performance build on one. I'm willing to try anything once! If you do have the Chrysler unit, they can be made pretty strong. What are your plans for the engine mods. I hope we're not going too far off topic with this thread.

You are right, we were getting off the original topic. So I started a new one :).

I have been looking for a clean Mighty Max truck for last few years. I think that I finally found '88 truck, only it is a very rare automatic. I think that this would make for a great drag vehicle. Just bolt on turbo 4G63T with some nice drag tires and low 11's should be pretty easy.

I do need to find out more about the tranny. I was told before that they were Chrysler units. Do you have any books which might list it?

If you have the Yota trans it will have a seperate bell, as opposed to the one piece case that the Chrysler unit would have. Also, on the Yota there should be an i.d. tag on the case on the driver's side of the vehicle. You should also notice that the pan is rectangular, unlike the odd- shaped pan of the Chrysler. I don't know if you own the truck yet but if you can look underneath it you should be able to tell what it is. Also, sometimes on Mitsu's there is a tag on the firewall that may say engine number and trans number. Either unit should be workable so don't worry too much.
