I have a few problems with my tranny.

1) It grinds when i put in reverse. However, if i put in first, then to reverse, it goes in smoothly. But lately, I have a hard time putting into reverse even after putting in 1st.

2) When I take my shifter from 1st and 2nd, it comes out very smoothly. But from the other gears, I can feel the click when I take it out of those gears. It's only happening to my 1st and 2nd, but my 3rd is getting there as well. One of my friends told me that the synchro is going bad. Do you guys agree?

3) When I was driving through hills for about 20 min. with only using 2nd and 3rd gears. After the hill driving was over, I smelled my clutch burning. It didn't smell like that before and I got my clutch installed about 8 months ago. I have the clutch masters stage 3 kevlers clutch.

Sorry for asking so many questions... can anyone help???

Sounds to me like your clutch is out of adjustment. Sounds like when you push in the clutch it is either getting over thrown and re-engages or it is adjusted to not fully disengage. That is why you are having problems getting it into reverse which does not have synchros. Also can cause problems shifting.

Out of curiosity - is your stage III kevlar clutch disc solid or sprung?

the clutch master's stage 3 clutch is solid... altho it sucks a**. anyways, i've been having the problem ever since i bought my car used. it used to have a stock one in it first.. grinded.... got my stage 3, grinds...

but ya.. i'm thinking it'll get all better once i bring my car into rre during the summer ...

With the solid kevlar discs do you get the tranny grrrrrrr when you decel?
I get the driveline noise/tranny grrrrr with my mueller dual disc clutch with its solid discs....

Can you further explain about the tranny grrrrr noise??? hehe...
i don't think i've ever heard that before, but esp. now my clutch is slipping all the time, even after adjusting/making it shorter, whatever you wanna call it... but ya... tell me about the noise you're talking about more.. then i can answer for sure...

If you do not get tranny/drive line noise when you decel then you probably have sprung discs in your clutch. If you have it, you will know it!
When you have a solid disc in your clutch you get the trans locked to the motor when the clutch is out. There are no springs to act as little shock absorbers to absorb the drive line and engine vibrations. When you decel it takes the load off the gears in the tranny and in the driveline and it makes a literal GGGGRRRRRRRR.

yes, i do have sprung disc. but the clutch sucks anyway, time for a new clutch... what would you recommand?

I have had the same problem before (must go into reverse before going into first) and it was the synchro.

k, thanks for the replies. but i'm bringing my car to RRE in late august or early sep to get my tranny rebuilt, so it's all good... just a little longer to go with my crappy-half-dead tranny
