5th gear popped out for the first time ever

For the record, yes I've searched and I'm not sure if this is the solution to my problem since my shifter does not seem to move forward and back in 5th: http://www.geocities.com/qwik93awd/Vfaq/shifter.htm

So anyway, I was cruising on the highway in 5th gear going about 75mph. All of a sudden, the shifter popped out of gear (this was while my foot was off the gas). I've never noticed it moving forward and back in gear like that vfaq states so I'm not sure if the problem is the same. It only happened once today. Any ideas?

My 2G did this in 2nd and 5th. Mine problem was just old synchros. When I would get off the accelerator the motor would rotate forward with the release of torque causing the shifter to pop out of gear when in either 2nd or 5th.

Consider getting new synchros. The problem should subside then.

I was under the assumption that a synchro's purpose was just to get the shifter in to gear, not actually hold it. And aside from that, if it was a bad synchro, wouldn't the gear shift badly? Mine is smooth.

I slow shifted 90% of the time so the rpms where low enough that I didn't have any problems shifting other than the typical dsm 2nd gear crunch.

After thinking about again this morning my second gear would pop out close to redline when on the gas and only occasionally when getting off the gas. 5th only popped out after realeasing the accelerator.

Poly motor mounts might help as well.

hmm interesting..I have noticed that my 1st, 2nd and 4th gear do move back and forth when releasing and pressing the gas. Not with 5th though.
