Thinking about doing this with my shifter. Yea, or Nea?

When I take by shifter out to replace the bushings(probley Symborski metal) and shifter cables (as in VFAQ), I wanted to cut the stock shifter down a lil bit. Heres a lil' illustration I made of where I was thinking of cutting and re-welding it...

Should I do it?
 
I wouldn't cut it. I had one cut and did not like it. It give the "appearance" of a short shifter but no benefit. The space you take out willl affect your leverage and ability to shift quickly with the least amount of effort.

If you want a shifter that looks short and takes more effort to shift, then by all means do it.
 
As far as leverage goes...What if I added weight to the shift knob I use? I was thinking of either buying a GReddy, Razo, or 2G knob and putting some kinda weight in it if possible (like very small fish weights or something).
 
:p Mike, I always look forward to future mods and ask question now, not later. Besides, I got nothing but time since my arse is stuck on the comp all day ;) Almost done, waiting for the 2600 to come in on Wendsday.

Im trying to find pics of the GReddy "Counterweight" shift knob. Alls it says about it is that with comes with 3 different colored inserts, it weights 13.5 oz, and its black chrome (which I likes). I want to make sure it looks like the traditional/standard chrome GReddy knob that everyone else has. Anyone have this knob or a pic, or know if it does look like the traditional GReddy knob?
