Thinking about doing this with my shifter. Yea, or Nea?

When I take by shifter out to replace the bushings(probley Symborski metal) and shifter cables (as in VFAQ), I wanted to cut the stock shifter down a lil bit. Heres a lil' illustration I made of where I was thinking of cutting and re-welding it...

Yes do it. I did this and it feels great. I can also see my radio now that its shorter . it makes driving a lot more fun. Not quite a real short shifter but its a great free/cheap mod.

I wouldn't cut it. I had one cut and did not like it. It give the "appearance" of a short shifter but no benefit. The space you take out willl affect your leverage and ability to shift quickly with the least amount of effort.

If you want a shifter that looks short and takes more effort to shift, then by all means do it.

i really don't think it takes all that much more effort when you cut it... feels fine to me.

I wouldn't do it. I think the 1G shift knob is short enough with an aftermarket knob or a 2G knob. Just my opinion though.

As far as leverage goes...What if I added weight to the shift knob I use? I was thinking of either buying a GReddy, Razo, or 2G knob and putting some kinda weight in it if possible (like very small fish weights or something).

It depends on how much you cut out...I cut 1" from mine and there is no more effect to shift.I just wanted a shorter height not throw.There's some pics in my Gallery.

As far as the weighted knob is concerned, doesn't mach v sell some weighted shift knobs?

Im trying to find pics of the GReddy "Counterweight" shift knob. Alls it says about it is that with comes with 3 different colored inserts, it weights 13.5 oz, and its black chrome (which I likes). I want to make sure it looks like the traditional/standard chrome GReddy knob that everyone else has. Anyone have this knob or a pic, or know if it does look like the traditional GReddy knob?
