ok guys from what i've read so far gm synchromesh fluid is the best followed by bg synchroshift, and redline. ok i understand gm is made by general motors, and the other 2 are made by who? but my real question is why is gm motors tranny fluid being used by dsmers instead of mitsubishi tranny fluid? are the others really that much better? if so why?

GM or Mitsu has no effect on how good the tranny fluid is.. what im trying to say here is if Mitsu made tranny fluid it isnt automatically better just cuz Mitsu makes it..

Ive heard the GM Synchromesh & BG Synchroshift are pretty much the same whe it comes to performance, the only reason I went with GM is cuz I got it locally on the spot without having to pay shipping

and you didnt have local mitsubishi dealer to get tranny fluid from. and what i was asking is what makes gm fluid better. and i would think because our cars are made by mitsubishi that their tranny fluid would be better, but i've been wrong once before

ok, well know one has been able to explaine why it's better than the dsm tranny fluid, but i guess thats ok; so who makes the best for perfomance and tranny reliability, and where would i get some.

ok............ can someone help me? this is all i need to get my car back on the road, and i've been without it for over a month!

i did explain it.. i dont see what you dont understand.. mitsu tranny fluid wouldnt be better just cuz its made by mitsubishi.. the GM synchromesh and BG synchroshift are just known to be good fluids.. just so happens that GM makes the synchromesh or atleast they retail it.. Im sorry if you dont understand that..

i understand what your telling me perfectly larry, however; you might want to look at post 3 and 5 again. for one you didnt tell me what makes gm better, nore did you tell me where i could get some.... did you? OMG and besides who came up with the idea of using gm tranny fluid on a dsm (retorical question)?

I dont know enough about the fluid myself.. thats like saying what makes Nike better then Walmart shoes?? I dont know, do you?? but Im sure we both know they are..

someone mentioned the GM and BG are both synthetic fluids I beleive, they are just known to be better fluids..

well i guess if you guys are running this and easily have over 250+whp then my tranny should be fine. you just have to understand why i'm gun shy; i've used a synthetic blend before on my origional tranny after about 24,000 miles. i used castro gtx synthetic and the syncros went bad and the bearings burned and my tranny craped out at 38,000 miles, and it was the mitsubishi dealership that told me because i used a synthetic oil and not the dsm's recommended oil my tranny was not going to be covered. at that time it was the 4,000 dollars i needed to by a used gsx but instead i had to buy a new tranny. i saw the dsm's fluid before they put it in' it was red and very thin (the consistancy of anti-freez) it looked like auto tranny fluid. i told the dealer this **** is supposed to protect better than (the thick dark brown) synthetic oil..... castro, he said that these trannys do better with a thinner oil and it will protect them better. this all sounded like bullshit to me (like they were just trying to cover their own ass so they wouldn't have to loose out on my warrenty) what do you guys think?

well sh!t i would have never thought that the dealership would be telling the truth about something :O so where can i order gm synchromesh and how many quarts do i need. i just ordered ate blue racing break fluid from extreme (thanks to speedracer who told me where i could find it). they also had bg syncro shift II trans axil fluid but it was like 16.00 a quart and they it said i needed 3 for my tranny and 1 for my transfer case (i think thats where they said that one qt went). any who is there any place where i could get it cheaper.

hey larry should i get a quart for the transfer case or is that not necessary. i know the tranny fluid was changed, or does that 3.1 you told me to ask for include enough for the transfer case

Dude you drive a GS so you don't have a transfer case ;) I don't know how many quarts for your NT tranny cause I drive a turbo, my advice is for you to buy a manual so you won't do something wrong like putting 75w gear lube in your tranny. Hope this helps,

Mario

no sh!t, they wanted $16.00 a quart. and i was't thinking i know i dont have a transfer case :O well it dosent say what weight the gm or the bg fluid is and i dont know what the hell i did with my manual i guess i lost it. if you dont mind could you look it up for me

I used BG Synchroshift previously, but went to GM Synchromesh this time around because it is available locally.

The tranny shifts just as smooth as it did on the Synchroshift.

BTW according to RRE's site a AWD tranny holds 2.3 quarts and the transfer case holds 0.5 quarts.

If you want the BG go to: www.bgprod.com/texas.html#anchor1639185 and click on the county nearest to yours for a distributor. For the GM just go to your local GM dealer. Your tranny holds 2.1 quarts from the info on www.2gnt.com and don't worry about what weight cause the BG Syncroshift II and the GM Syncromesh only come in one viscosity as far as I know.

Mario

thanks gst, yeah i just spoke with a friend of my who used to be a distributor for gm and he said they dont come in different weights and that it would be fine for my car, thanks for the imput though

can you us the gm synchromesh on the transfer case, or do you have to get a different oil? how about the rear diff?

on the transfer case..... yes you can use the gm, as for the rear diff ... i'm assuming you can use it as well, but i'm not sure. if i were you i go to the turbo forum and do some research, and if you cant find what your looking for post a thread.

I have a 95' Z-28 six-speed, It recomends ATF fluid witch is strainge. I was woundering, if the GM Syncro fluid, is ATF or Manual fluid you DSM guys put in the five-speed transmission.

Thanks,
Jim
